Local restaurant gives back to first responders

BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — Free food is something that hardly anyone can pass up.

That’s also true for the sheriff’s deputies who spend their days and nights out patrolling Raleigh County throughout the year. They were incredibly grateful when Preston and Stephanie Reeves, the owners of Dickey’s BBQ, offered a BBQ buffet lunch for the station.

Preston Reeves said that since opening they’ve wanted to give back to the first responders who serve the community.

“It’s been great. I mean, we’ve been in business for 11 years now and we constantly get first responders in our store and for the last 11 years, we offer first responders a 10 percent discount year-round, every day,” said Preston Reeves.

That discount is another way that the local business is supporting those who serve the Raleigh County community.

“Dickey’s Corporate has started what they call the Dickey’s Foundation. And that works across the nation to help first responders who support and protect communities across the country,” said Stephanie Reeves.

Captain Jim Bare with the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office says that their community supports them extensively, and not just by providing them lunch.

Bare knows that his department has worked hard to build this relationship of mutual support.

“It’s a good thing. I mean, it’s…it’s been years in the making. We’ve tried to reach out and do things with the businesses in the community throughout the years. And I think it’s come to fruition, and it pays dividends,” said Bare.
