LOCAL ROUNDUP: Ledford shifts football opponent

Sep. 22—TRIAD — The football game between Ledford and Wheatmore scheduled for Friday at Wheatmore has been cancelled.

Wheatmore will not play Friday due to COVID-19 protocols, and Ledford will now play at Clinton at 6:30 p.m.

HIGH POINT — High Point Central swept Eastern Guilford 9-0 in Mid-State 3A Conference girls tennis Monday at Central. Olivia Perez, Rachel Eskew, Mallory Cook and Caroline Boger won in singles for the Bison (4-5 overall, 4-1 conference). Perez/Cook and Eskew/Boger won in doubles.

SW GUILFORD, W. GUILFORD

HIGH POINT — Southwest Guilford topped Western Guilford 7-2 in Metro 4A Conference girls tennis Monday at Southwest. Audrey Serb, Tran Nguyen, Lauren Harris, Grace Parsons, Anna McGinnis and Kate Cherry won in singles for the Cowgirls (5-6 overall, 4-5 conference). Betsy Chen/Bella Johnson won in doubles.

KERNERSVILLE — Bishop McGuinness swept Winston-Salem Prep 9-0 in Northwest Piedmont 1A Conference girls tennis Monday at Fourth of July Park. Lourdes Lopez, Lindsey Bergelin, Allison Dennen, Nina Holton, Adelaide Jernigan and Caroline Gregory won in singles (10-1 overall, 2-0 conference). Dennen/Holton, Jernigan/Gregory and Sarah Mims/Kemina Gilstrap won in doubles.

WALLBURG — Ledford defeated rival North Davidson 8-1 in Mid-Piedmont 3A Conference girls tennis Monday at Ledford. Kayleigh Batcheck, Abby Dunbar, Brea White, Karli Shoaf and Addison Sage won in singles for the Panthers (6-1-2 overall, 4-1 MPC). Mila Riggsbee/Dunbar, Batcheck/White and Shoaf/Sage won in doubles. Abri Tutterow won in singles for the Black Knights (4-6, 2-3).

OAK GROVE, C. DAVIDSON

LEXINGTON — Oak Grove downed Central Davidson 6-3 in Mid-Piedmont 3A Conference girls tennis Monday at Central Davidson. Jessica Fuchs, Marlie Stephenson, Landrie Stephenson, Kayleigh Warlick and Kylie Warlick won in singles for the Grizzlies (3-4 overall, 1-1 CCC). Fuchs/Warlick won in doubles.

SOCCER HP CENTRAL, NE GUILFORD

HIGH POINT — High Point Central tied Northeast Guilford 2-2 in Mid-State 3A Conference boys soccer Monday at Correll-Morris Field. The Bison moved to 1-4-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the conference.

KERNERSVILLE — Bishop McGuinness fell 2-0 against Surry Central in nonconference boys soccer Monday at Bishop. The Villains dropped to 2-8 overall.

THOMASVILLE — East Davidson lost 2-0 against Salisbury in Central Carolina 1A/2A Conference boys soccer Monday at Brown Middle. The Golden Eagles dropped to 5-3 overall and 0-2 in the CCC.

CLEMMONS — West Forsyth defeated Glenn 5-0 in Central Piedmont 4A Conference boys soccer Monday at West Forsyth. The Bobcats, who trailed 2-0 at halftime, dropped to 4-5-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the CPC.

TRINITY, UWHARRIE CHARTER

TRINITY — Trinity fell 2-1 against Uwharrie Charter in Piedmont Athletic 1A/2A Conference boys soccer at Trinity. The Bulldogs dropped to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

RAMSEUR — Wheatmore lost 5-3 against Eastern Randolph in Piedmont Athletic 1A/2A Conference boys soccer at Eastern Randolph. The Warriors dipped to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

VOLLEYBALL HP CENTRAL, EASTERN GUILFORD

GIBSONVILLE — High Point Central rolled past Eastern Guilford 25-17, 25-12, 25-11 in Mid-State 3A Conference volleyball Monday at Eastern Guilford. The Bison improved to 6-6 overall and 4-1 in the conference.

BISHOP, COMMUNITY SCHOOL OF DAVIDSON

KERNERSVILLE — Bishop McGuinness swept Community School of Davidson 25-19, 25-17, 25-22 in nonconference volleyball Monday at Bishop. Chrisbel Alcantara had 16 kills and eight digs to lead the Villains (7-2). Susanna Drake added six kills, while Finley Miller had five kills and two aces. Jeanna Hauk had 27 assists, five kills and 14 digs. Emma Briody chipped in 10 digs, and Nadia Slanker had two kills and two blocks.

E. DAVIDSON, N. DAVIDSON

THOMASVILLE — North Davidson topped East Davidson 25-20, 25-19, 25-19 in nonconference volleyball Monday at East. Lyndsay Reid had 14 kills, 10 digs and three aces for the Golden Eagles (7-4). Kaitlyn Wallace had six kills, 12 assists and seven digs, while Emma Anderson had nine digs, and Kara Marah had 13 assists. Emma Rogers had six kills for the Black Knights (5-5). Dylan Freedle added seven blocks, Amber Pierce had 10 digs, and Bella Gilchrist had seven assists.

GOLF AT JAMESTOWN PARK

JAMESTOWN — Southwest Guilford and Ragsdale tied for fifth during Monday's Metro 4A Conference girls golf match at Jamestown Park. Northwest Guilford won with a 122, followed by Northern Guilford (123). Southwest and Ragsdale both posted a 200. Meghan Gregory (61), Riley Brundage (67) and Dana Petrovic (72) had counting scores for Ragsdale, while Adiison Yochim (63), Elena Perko (68) and Miriam Cash (69) had counting scores for Southwest. Northwest's Leah Edwards was medalist with a 37.

WALLBURG — Oak Grove finished first Monday at Meadowlands in the third Mid-Piedmont 3A Conference girls golf match of the season. Oak Grove totaled a 144, followed by Asheboro (151), Central Davidson (171) and Ledford (181).
