Sand Creek's girls basketball team overcame a slow start to defeat Addison 43-29 Monday night. It was the Aggies' fourth win in the past five games.

Sand Creek improved to 9-7 on the season with the non-league win.

Blissfield is No. 3 in Division 3 and Morenci No. 6 in Division 4 in the latest Associated Press girls basketball poll. Tecumseh also received votes in Division 2, coming in at No. 15.

Adrian wins twice

Adrian boys swept Pinckney 30-0 and the Maple girls won 28-2 in dual meet action Monday.

In the boys match, Gabe Arnold rolled a 171 and Austin Garcia rolled a 170. Jailyn Laring had the high game for the Maple girls at 177.

United falls in outdoor game

Lenawee United fell 2-1 Sunday to Lakes Area at Clark Park in Detroit.

Lakes Area built a 2-0 lead before Seamus McCarley (Tecumseh) scored a power play goal with 6:07 left in the third period. Seth Kordyzon (Onsted) turned aside 26 of the 28 shots he faced.

Lenawee United finished 1-for-4 on their power play opportunities, while Lakes Area went 1-for-2.

Clark Park is located near Ambassador Bridge in Detroit. It was the first-ever outdoor game for Lenawee United in the club’s four-year history.

Lenawee United, 11-7-0 on the season, returns to game action on Wednesday when they play at Ann Arbor Skyline in an SEC Crossover game at 6:30 p.m.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL

Walker is Player of the Week

Davin Walker helped Siena Heights University to a pair of victories last week and won Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference player of the week honors in the process.

Walker finished with 28 points and six rebounds in the 66-65 win at Madonna, leading the Saints back from a 65-62 deficit in the final minute. Walker made a jumper with 57 seconds remaining and, after Siena Heights made a defensive stop, Walker put the Saints ahead 66-65 with another jumper with less than 10 seconds left.

Against Dearborn, Walker had 16 points, eight rebounds and three assists in a 104-88 win.

SHU women to host Indiana Tech

No. 12 ranked Indiana Tech will visit SHU this week in a key women’s basketball game.

Indiana Tech has been either the regular season and/or WHAC tournament champions each of the last five seasons. They are leading the WHAC with a 13-1 record, however, the Saints were the team to beat the Warriors on the road earlier this season.

SHU is third in the WHAC at 11-3 and 18-4 overall.

On Saturday, the Saints host its annual “Pink Game” with Lawrence Tech.

COLLEGE WRESTLING

Williams wins honor

Adrian College sophomore Blake Williams earned the first MIAA Wrestler of the Week award for the Bulldogs this season.

The Bulldogs need a victory Wednesday at Trine to win its first MIAA wrestling league title since 1971.

COLLEGE CHEER

Saints make history

Siena Heights won its first-ever invitational in program history over the weekend, placing first at its own Halo Classic on Sunday at the SHU Fieldhouse.

The Saints finished with a score of 72.00. Madonna finished second (67.70) and Rochester was third (66.85).

COLLEGE DANCE

First place for SHU

The Siena Heights competitive dance team took first place in its own Halo Classic Sunday.

The Saints had a score of 82.75 and did not suffer any deductions. Point Park placed second with 75.75 and Madonna was third with 73.40.

The Saints also competed against Madonna in a dual competition after the Halo Classic and won that, as well. SHU scored an 82.65, once again without claiming any deductions, while MU hit a 79.30.
