Local Roundup: Wyoming Seminary advances in girls lacrosse

May 15—Sadie Gilbert and Maddie Olshemski each scored three goals as sixth-seeded Wyoming Seminary defeat third-seeded Scranton Prep 10-8 Monday in a District 2 Class 2A girls lacrosse quarterfinal game.

Kylie Romanchik had two goals for Seminary. Sienna Popple and Abby Williams had a goal and an assist each. Goalie Summer Larrabee made 10 stops.

Clair McGrath paced Prep with three goals. Grace Kotchik and Alexa Kleinberger each had two goals. Annie Johnson had a goal and an assist.

Prep goalie Jayna McIntyre had five saves.

Seminary will play in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Thursday at Abington Heights, which defeated Lake-Lehman 8-2.

Crestwood 21, North Pocono 10

Top-seeded Crestwood rolled into the semifinals with a victory over eighth-seeded North Pocono. The Comets will host either Dallas or Wyoming Area at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Hannah Ziegler had four goals and two assists for the Comets. Isabella Caporuscio and Grace Pasternick had four goals each. Jordan Andrews scored three times and had two assists.

Julia Glowacki (3 g, 1 a), Kennedie Huber (4 a), Aubrey Macri (2 g, 1 a) and Lucy Malia (1 g) also figured into the Crestwood scoring. Goalie Megan Koons mad 11 saves.

Amaya Monacelli had seven goals and an assist for North Pocono. Norah Smith had two goals while Samantha Polishan had a goal and an assist.

SOFTBALL

Crestwood 2, Wilkes-Barre Area 0

Charlene Daisey pitched a complete-game shutout as Crestwood edged Wilkes-Barre Area.

Daisey surrendered six hits and struck out three. Kayla Wisniewski had a double and an RBI. Victoria Butler singled and knocked in a run. Allison Babula had two hits and scored a run.

Haley Martin was 2-for-3 for WBA.

Tunkhannock 17, Wyo. Valley West 0

Tunkhannock finished the Division 1 season at 12-1 with a three-inning win at Wyoming Valley West.

The Tigers will now awaits the outcome of the Pittston Area at Dallas game on Wednesday.

If Pittston Area wins, it will play Tunkhannock at 1 p.m. Sunday at Lake-Lehman High School for the Division 1 title. If Pittston Area loses, then Tunkhannock is the champion.

Ella McNeff had a double and five RBI and Hannah James had a double and three RBI as every player in the lineup either scored, had a hit or drove in a run.

Kaya Hannon and McKenzie Hannon combined for the abbreviated no-hitter.

Lake-Lehman 22, Hanover Area 0

Rylie Bucknavage and Kirsten Finarelli homered and Hannah Chipego pitched a three-inning no-hitter for Lake-Lehman.

Bucknavage finished with four RBI. Finarelli, Chipego and Lucy Honeywell had three each.

Dallas 4, Wyoming Area 1

Abby Cruz was 3-for-3 and Victoria Spaciano and Sophia Maier homered as Dallas defeated Wyoming Area.

Cruz also doubled and was the winning pitcher. Carolyn Comitz doubled.

Morgan Janeski doubled and singled for Wyoming Area. Maggie Hallman was 2-f0r-3 with her team's only RBI. Alexa Gasek was 2-for-4.

Loyalsock 11, Holy Redeemer 3

Loyalsock scored six times in the bottom of the third to take control against Holy Redeemer.

Redeemer took a 3-0 lead in the top of the inning as Kendra Santuk, Lauren Whitman and Bella Boylan scored. Boylan had a solo homer and Olivia Paulukonis also had an RBI.

BASEBALL

Holy Redeemer 12, Wyoming Seminary 0

Dino DiMauro and John Matlock combined on a three-hitter as Holy Redeemer won in six innings.

DiMauro allowed two hits and struck out six over four innings.

Matt Maciejczyk had a triple and three RBI for Redeemer. KJ Gryboski was 2-f0r-2 with a double and two RBI. Nick Mazzarella had two RBI and Charlie Revitt doubled and scored a run.

Antek Evan had two of Seminary's hits.

Wyo. Valley West 14, Berwick 1

The Spartans scored 12 times in the fourth inning to tear open a close game and win in five innings.

Everyone in the Valley West batting order had at least one hit. D'Vonte, Mason Sgarlat, Max Lupohovsky and Noah Graham all had triples. Lupohovsky had four RBI, Sgarlat had three and Rivers and Luke Buss had two each.

Sgarlat pitched a complete game two-hitter with six strikeouts.

Lake-Lehman 5, Allentown Central Catholic 4

Graedon Finarelli homered, doubled and had two RBI as Lake-Lehman won a non-conference game on the road with two runs in the seventh inning.

Jake Naugle was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Cole Kaiser was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.

After ACC scored four runs in the first inning, starter Corey Bean and reliever Jason Jones shut down the Vikings the rest of the way.

Wyoming Area 9, MMI Prep 2

Brady Noone had three RBI and Nate Novakowski added two more as Wyoming Area defeated MMI Prep.

Casey Noone pitched a complete game, striking out five and surrendering three hits.

Hanover Area 20, Northwest 3

A nine-run fifth inning allowed Hanover Area to end the game after five innings.

Jake Vigorito homered and had two RBI for Hanover Area. Brady Fallon and Dan Fuller had three RBI each.

Caden Hummer and Tim Seriani had two RBI apiece.
