Local Salvation Army ready to ship out supplies to help communities hit by Hurricane Fiona
The Salvation Army said it’s ramping up supplies and say it has blankets, cleanup kits, and meals — ready to be shipped out this afternoon.
“Each disaster is different they are local in their nature so whatever the needs are they are based on the ground,” said Emergency Disaster Director, Dean Hannah, of the Salvation Army.
Hannah said their Green Tree warehouse is full of critical supplies ready to be shipped out to Puerto Rico this week.

Dean said while that is good, what’s even better is that many more are already there — a lesson learned from Hurricane Maria.
“The good thing about the Salvation Army is that they are in every zip code including Puerto Rico,” Hannah said.
Hannah explained that preparation is year-round — but says the best way to provide aid is to have boots on the ground to make sure every need is met.
“We are in those communities before it happens, we are there now, and we will be there after,” Hannah said.

Across town, the Brother’s Brother Foundation is working to do its bit, and says it’s been in contact with its partners on the island.
“She basically said to me there is water everywhere,” said Ozzy Samad, the president of the Brother’s Brother Foundation.
First, they’ll ship 12 pallets of hard hats, tarps, hygiene kits and cleaning supplies, many of which were donated by local companies.
“Subsequently we were planning on sending a container load of medical supplies, and other relief supplies,” explained Samad.
Both organizations say any, and all, help is welcome as the hurricane continues to move through the region, leaving destruction behind.
“Every dollar, every dime every penny that you donate goes to helping those in need,” Samad said.
