Local Sports Briefs: Hunter's Education course to be held

Hunters Education Course coming in Sept.

A Hunter's Education course will be held Sept. 9 and 10 at the Zanesville Christian Ministry, located at 545 Richey Road.

The course will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 9 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 10. The course is free, and anyone interested must pre-register at WildOhio.Gov.

McDonald hits aces

Bob McDonald had a hole in one on Aug. 12 at Fuller's Fairways, using an 11 wood on the 125-yard 18th hole. His witnesses were Bobby McDonald, Jr., and Bud Hardesty. Bob's score for the round was 73.

Meinstein knocks in hole-in-one

Ron Meinstein had his second hole-in-one of his golfing career Thursday, at Green Valley Golf Club. He used a sand wedge on the 73-yard 16th hole. He shot 70 and the shot was witnessed by Bill Young.

John Glenn CC hosting Youth Fun Run

The John Glenn Cross Country Team is hosting a Youth One Mile Fun Run at 5 p.m. Sept. 27. Children in K-6th grade from any school can participate, and runners will be broken into age divisions.

Registration is $10 per child and can be completed prior to the race at Larry Miller Intermediate School in New Concord. Proceeds benefit JG Track and Cross Country Boosters. For more information, contact Coach Amy Tooms at atooms@eastmschools.org.

Results from Green Valley Leagues

Kathi Galloway carded low gross of 37 and Galloway and Susan Kuhn tied for low net at 31 in the MHPCC Ladies League. Winning teams were 5, 8, 9 and 10.

Steve Galloway fired a low score of 27 on the front nine and low net was 26 by Mike Haren and Steve Kreis in Tuesday's Rice-Galloway Optometry League. Low net team was Bogey's at 113.

Results from Crystal Springs

The Crystal Springs Golf Club and Community Bank Monday Morning Senior League A Division had Dan Stottsberry with low gross of 37 and Steve Reed & Jim Cooper shared low net of 33. Winning teams were 3-5-14-13-11-6-8.

The B Division had Lee Firich with low gross of 36 and Firich and Mike Yeakley tied for low net. Winning teams were 9-8-11-2-1-12-13-10.

Results from EagleSticks League

Dunn Trucking totaled 125 and won the 4-team playoff over Bearings Limited (132), Newton American Legion (138) and Kessler Outdoor Advertising (138) to conclude the Coconis Furniture Tuesday Night League.

The Dunn Trucking team consisted of Peppy Dunn, Don Bush, Terry Dillinger and Tracey Hartley. The league outing has a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 28.

"The Greens" Tuesday Couples Scramble League results had the team of Bob & Lynn Werry firing a low gross score of 31, and Greg & Robin Sites having a low net score of 29. Winning teams were Jake & Jess Johnson, Brady & Rose Campbell, Joe & Sas Dougherty, AL & Sandy Hall, and Loren Long & Connie Watton.

For this Tuesday, The Greens Couples Scramble was won by Joel & Trista, who fired a low gross score of 32, while Dan & Diane Jewell had a low net score of 29. Winning teams were Bob & Lynn Werry, Joe & Sas Dougherty, Jim & Lucy Cook, Dan & Diane Jewell, Al & Sandy Hall, and Joel & Trista Harris. Closest to pin winners were Joe Dougherty on No. 13 and Loren Long on 18.

Jay Smith fired 31 for low gross & John Beardsley had 29 for low net in the GEYER FAMILY INSURANCE Wednesday League. Bo Coconis defeated Blake Hartford in the finals of the Bob Rankin Trophy Championship, which featured Individual Season Long match play championship. Joe Allen and Tam Nguyen were semi-finalists.

The Ladies Auxiliary League played on Wednesday with the format of 1 Best Ball 5’s, 2 Best Ball 4’s, 3 Best Ball 3’s. The 18 Holers Net winners were Lisa Johnson, Lucy Cook, Deb Hennessey and Bonnie Joseph at 15-under, while second at 14-under was Becky Weir, Paula Brunton, Linda Phillips and Jan Schowinsky and third at 2-under was Vicky French, Susan Benincasa, Connie LaPlante and Blind Draw (Deb Hennessey). Joseph made longest putt on No. 17 (15-feet-3).

For 9 Holers Net, Tami Swope, Marie Bolin, Joan Minning and Toby Rogovin won at 7-under, while second at 7-under was Ann Somple, Betsy Thomas, Linda Graham and Diane Decenso and third at 7-under was Deedee Dodson, Ellen NistSusan Thompson and Cindy Linn.

The Charlie Goelz League played the ABCD: Scramble (At least 2 drives used by every player), and first place was the team of Mike West, Fred Branditz, Mark Weingarth and Rusty Montgomery at 6-under. Will Wisecarver, Dan Sylvester and Joe Neff were second at 5-under, and Tim McLain, Scott Webb, Tom Diehl and Larry Shank were third on a scorecard playoff at 4-under. Chris Minning made the longest putt on No. 11 (35-3), and Mike Zimmerer was closest to the pin on No. 18 (7-1).

The Thursday Evening Ladies League played the Throw Out 3 Worse Holes, 2 Best Ball format on the Front nine, as Shari Weingarth, Joan Minning, Cindy Linn and Ann Melick won with 13-under. Jan Schowinsky, Debbie McLain, Tami Swope and Paula Brunton were second at 10-under, and Lou Taylor, Linda Graham, Ellen Nist and Linda Phillips (blind draw) were third at 7-under.
