Local Sports: Dundee nearly perfect in winning wrestling District

FLAT ROCK – Dundee wasn’t quite perfect.

The Viking wrestlers dominated the Division 3 District at Flat Rock Wednesday, beating Ida by a perfect 84-0 score in the semifinals then dispatching the host school 81-0 in the finals.

Trey Parker went the distance against Andrew Given of Flat Rock for a 9-2 decision at 150 pounds.

Every other match in both dual meets was either decided by a pin or a forfeit for Dundee.

Blake Cosby (144), Aiden Davis (157) and Aiden Massingill (285) had two falls each. Other pins came from Kole Katschor (165), Landon King (190), Quinton Lephew (215), Haydn Nutt (113), Ashton Viers (120), Jeremy Amrhein (126), Cameron Chinavarre (132), Kaden Chinavarre (138), Owen Motylinski (150), Cooper Buhl (165), Jacob Fenbert (175), and Braeden Davis (132).

Amrhein delivered the quickest stick in 14 seconds. Both of Aiden Davis’ falls came in less than a minute.

Others getting the job done in less than a minute were Fenbert, Braeden Davis, Lephew, Cameron Chinavare and Cosby.

“Our guys up top performed great when given the opportunity to represent themselves and compete for the team,” said Dundee co-coach Nate Hall. “Happy with the effort tonight looking forward to Saturday’s Individual Tournament.”

A pin by Wyatt Mack in the last match of the dual gave Flat Rock a 32-31 win over Grosse Ile in the other semifinal.

Dundee will take a 12-2 record into Regional action next week.

PREP BASKETBALL

Carlson offense struggles

GIBRALTAR – Points were hard to come by for Gibraltar Carlson in a 51-34 loss to Lincoln Park Thursday night.

The Marauders, playing without center Ben Przytula who was wrestling for the school in a District Tournament, trailed 21-17 at halftime and 37-24 after three quarters.

Roy Braddy scored 13 points for Carlson, which dipped to 6-11 with its third consecutive loss.

State Line wins at line

TEMPERANCE – State Line Christian and Bowling Green Christian hit exactly the same number of field goals (14) and 3-pointers (4) Thursday night.

The different in State Line’s 49-37 win came at the free-throw line where the Patriots were 17-of-29 and their guests 5-of-15.

Eli Dyer led State Line (14-9) with 22 points and Landon Worley added 11.

Adams, Riggs lead

DEXTER – Alec Adams and Josh Riggs were the top point scorers for Monroe in a 146-40 loss to Dexter Wednesday.

Riggs had a season-best time in the breaststroke. Vishwas Joshi and Ashton Walker also had strong performances.

COMPETITIVE CHEERLEADING

Four Jets picked

FLAT ROCK – Kasidy Adams, Rylie Armstrong, Olivia Martin and Dealnie Joseph of Huron League champion Airport made the All-Huron League first team selected by league coaches.

Riley Criteser and Amanda Page of Flat Rock, Alyssa Massserant and Lindsay Masserant of Jefferson and New Boston Huron’s Kaitlyn Arnston also made the first team.

Second-team choices included Faith Wieckowski, Faith Walls and Bre Mulvin of Airport, Kyley Barger, Carleigh Newman and Haylee Smith of Flat Rock, Cameran Carter and Katie Powell of Jefferson and Brooke Spears of Huron.

Miranda Wylie, Makenzi Yoas and Kaddie McDonald of Airport, A’Myah Bean, Savannah Bodard and Keily Dial of Flat Rock, Ella Simpson and Mariah Hamric of Jefferson and Stella Hendley of Huron were on the honorable mention list.
