Local Sports: Dundee snaps 14-game skid, wins second game of season

ADRIAN – Dundee’s girls basketball team won its first game of the season back on November 29.

Then the Vikings waited ... and waited … and waited.

They finally got another taste of victory Tuesday clipping Adrian Madison 43-39 to snap a 14-game losing streak.

Dundee did it with balance. Mirra Borg and Kaylee Imo scored 10 points each and Faith Stahl added 9.

"We came out to play tonight and all four quarters,11-for-17 from the free throw line and that was big for us. Our defense is really looking good," Dundee coach Josh Salley said. "What a great team effort in the win. ... The girls played with heart and effort they definitely deserve the win. I’m proud of these girls they haven’t given up and work hard every day."

The Vikings trailed 12-8 after one quarter, but came roaring back to grab a 25-20 advantage at the halftime Madison rallied to knot the score at 28-28 heading into the final period.

Behnke leads Bedford

ANN ARBOR − Peyton Behnke led Bedford in scoring for the third straight game and catapulted the Mules to a 64-30 win Friday over Ann Arbor Huron.

The Mule sophomore tossed in 18 points. She had 13 in the first half as Bedford built a 36-14 lead.

Payton Pudlowski added 15 points and Ava Gray 11 for Bedford, which improved to 17-1 overall and 9-1 in the Southeastern Conference Red.

Bears sputter in third

Jefferson trailed just 22-20 at halftime, but Grosse Ile dominated the third period 14-2 to pull away for a 41-29 victory Tuesday.

Anna Boggs led the 4-12 Bears with 10 points and Lindsey Gennoe and Grace Jones added 8 each.

Saline routs Monroe

"Tough loss tonight," Monroe coach John Mason said following the Trojans' 55-10 loss to Saline Tuesday night.

Monroe went scoreless through the first half. Saline led 28-0 at halftime and added 22 more in the third before taking its foot off the gas.

The Trojans fell to 5-12 overall.

Carlson streak stopped

WOODHAVEN − Gibraltar Carlson's three-game winning streak came to an end Tuesday with 53-35 loss to Woodhaven.

The Warriors ran out to a 26-7 lead in the first quarter.

Carlson fell to 8-11 overall and 7-6 in the Downriver League.

Whiteford game called off

OTTAWA LAKE – Whiteford’s scheduled home game against Maumee Valley Country Day had to be called off because of a lack of officials.

Bylow, Westbrook lead

WILLIS – Drew Bylow won the individual medley and breaststroke and TK Westbrook ruled the 50-yard freestyle and butterfly to lead Dundee past Ypsilanti Lincoln 113-70 Tuesday.

John Swisher won the 100 and Trevor Schroeder the 200 for the Vikings.

Geftos, Walker lead

ANN ARBOR – Reggie Geftos and Avery Walker were the top scorers for Monroe in a 147-35 loss to Ann Arbor Skyline Tuesday.

Other strong performances came from Vishwas Joshi, Ashton Walker, Josh Riggs, Maxx Adams and Gage Barko.

Milan splits

MILAN – Gavin Kruise won the 50-yard freestyle and butterfly and Zach Heikka took the individual medley and backstroke as Milan beat Detroit County Day 140-44 and fell 98-87 to Trenton Tuesday.

The Big Reds swept the relays.

"We swam incredibly well, but just lacked depth in some events against a much larger Trenton team," Milan coach Dan Heikka said.

Mason-Ida hits bests

BELLEVILLE – Erie Mason-Ida racked up 14 personal-best times in a loss to Belleville.

Cameron Tross won the 200 and 500 freestyle. Bowie Jacobs ruled the backstroke and Tross, Mason Reynolds, Garrett Wall and Brenner Nelson took the 400 free relay.   Other good swims were by Garrett Wall, Brenden Perry and Robert Otting.
