WIXOM – Josh Godfrey got his first win as a varsity baseball coach with the help of his little brother.

Joey Godfrey smashed a three-run double on a 3-2 count to carry Flat Rock to a 4-3 win over Plymouth Thursday.

Mike Giroux picked up the win for the Rams, allowing three hits and two runs with five strikeouts.

Flat Rock did not commit an error.

Brian Booms and Logan Coplen delivered hits.

The Rams lost the first game of the doubleheader 6-0 despite two hits by Coplen.

PREP BASEBALL

Huron tosses shutout

BELLEVILLE – Chad Martin and Kyle Kantola were nearly perfect as New Boston Huron topped Belleville 5-0 Thursday.

Belleville’s only baserunner came with two outs in the fifth. Martin pitched the first five innings and Kantola handled the final two innings of the no-hitter.

Ashton Warren went 3-for-4 to lead the offense and Myles Grace added two hits.

PREP SOFTBALL

SMCC-Whiteford postponed

OTTAWA LAKE – The St. Mary Catholic Central at Whiteford game scheduled for Thursday was postponed.

The schools are working on a make-up date.

Region players honored

TOLEDO – Eight Monroe County Region players and two coaches were honored at the recent 61st  Annual  Scholar-Athlete Banquet sponsored by the Toledo Wistert Chapter of the National

Football Foundation.

Mason Hall, Dakota Kohn and Brandon Thompson of Summerfield were honored along with Brayden Luse and Shea Ruddy of Whiteford, Ethan Layton and Brayden Ratliff of Dundee and Tommy Huss of Bedford.

The coaches selected were Bedford’s John Phillips and Whiteford’s Todd Thieken.
