GROSSE ILE – Throw strikes.

That’s the primary mission for Airport baseball's pitchers.

“That’s what we look for from our pitchers,” said Airport coach John VanWasshenova.

That’s what Jordan Footlander has been doing.

The senior did not walk a batter Thursday in tossing a 3-hitter with 10 strikeouts in a 14-0 win over Grosse Ile.

“His last two outings he’s done pretty well,” VanWasshenova said. “He’s been throwing strikes.”

Footlander had to throw the full seven innings because Airport didn’t put the game away until exploding for seven runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Jayden Harper-Lewis, Kyle Harvell, Corey Ferris, Sean Langton, Tyler Lakotos, and Seth Jones all drove in runs in the big inning.

Lakotos went 3-for-5 to lead the Airport offense while Jack Mills and Shade Daniels added two hits as the Jets moved to 7-0.

“Things have fallen in place for us,” VanWasshenova said. “It’s nice to be 7-0, but it will be tough. There is a lot of ball left.”
