Streaks pick up pair of wins

GALESBURG — The Galesburg High School boys basketball team picked up a pair of wins Saturday in MLK Shoot-out action at John Thiel Gym.

The Silver Streaks beat the Gary Comer College Prep Catamounts 57-46, and they downed the Chicago Orr Spartans 64-57.

Galesburg senior point guard Jeremiah Babers had 25 points to lead the way versus Orr, and senior Koen Derry chipped in 14 points for the Streaks.

Derry had 20 points, and Babers netted 13 points against the Catamounts.

Sophomores grab win at Lincoln

LINCOLN — The Galesburg High School sophomore girls basketball team downed Lincoln 54-33 on Saturday afternoon.

Addy McLaughlin led the way with 11 points for the 14-1 Silver Streaks.

Julia Robinson, Makenna Burford, Syriah Boyd, Addie Peck and Josslyn Peck added six points each for Galesburg in the win.

Freshmen defeat Limestone

BARTONVILLE — The Galesburg High School freshmen girls basketball team defeated Limestone 45-41 on Saturday morning.

The Silver Streaks were lead in scoring by Cora Johnson with 14 points, and Makenna Burford chipped in 11 points for GHS.

Streaks take 5th at MLK Invite

STERLING — The Galesburg High School bowling team finished fifth at the MLK Invite on Monday.

Silver Streaks senior Chloe Day finished first in all individual categories. She received an award for high six game series with a 1,320. Day had the best three game series with a 686. She also had the overall high game with a 277 and had the second and third highest games.

On Saturday, Galesburg took second place (4,700) in the Silver Streaks Invitational, which was held at Abbe Lanes in Abingdon. Kewanee took first with a 4,709.

Day had a high 6 game series with a 1,155. Galesburg's Ellee Shinn took high three game series with a 595.

Streaks win Grayhound Invite

BURLINGTON, Iowa — The Galesburg High School boys swimming and diving team placed first Monday at the 47th annual Grayhound Invite.

The Silver Streaks finished with 496.5 points to edge Iowa City (459). Pekin/Tremont ended up in third (383.5), Muscatine took fourth (277), Burlington finished fifth (195), Macomb placed sixth (155), Keokuk combined for a 107 and in seventh place. United Community tallied 20 points (eighth place).

Galesburg sophomore Riley Stevenson touched the wall first in the 200 freestyle (1:52.48), and he finished second in the 100 free (49.51).

The Silver Streaks’ 200 medley relay team — Carson Olson, Zeke Kent, Luke Thomas and Luke Foster — placed second (1:47.37).

Thomas, Olson, Stevenson and Kent joined forces for the 200 free relay, and they took second in 1:36.99.

Andrew Hawkinson, Foster, Stevenson and Josh Lee teamed up for the 400 free relay, and they ended up in second place (3:32.26).

COLLEGE TRACK AND FIELD

Prairie Fire open season

DAVENPORT, Iowa - The Knox College track and field teams competed in their first event of the year at St. Ambrose on Saturday.

Meredith Lepper placed fourth in the women's pole vault, clearing 2.40m and claiming a spot on the Knox Top-10 list. She also claimed a spot on the list in the 60m hurdles.

The Prairie Fire's Tara Irani also earned a spot on the top-10 list in the women's 60m hurdles (:12.10). Knox's Thao Luong earned fourth place in the women's triple jump with a leap of 9.23m.

Peyton Balfour cleared the 1.40m mark in the women's high jump to place eighth and earn a spot in the Knox top-10 list.

The Prairie Fire's Derrick Jackson earned a second place finish in the men's 60m dash with a time of :06.91. He also placed fourth in the 200m with a time of :22.70.

Tyrell Pierce claimed a spot in the Knox top-10 list in the men's 60 m dash (:07.29).

Charles Broomfield placed second in the men's weight throw with a heave of 17.51m to earn a new Knox record. He also placed sixth in the shot put with a toss of 14.18m.

Kendall Ballman earned sixth place in the men's triple jump with a leap of 12.80m. He also earned a spot in the Knox top-10 list.

AJ Vasquez also claimed a spot on the Knox top-10 list in the triple jump (12.51m).
