Local Sports: Jasso scores four for Carlson

TRENTON – Luis Jasso scored four goals all in the first half as Gibraltar Carlson dominated Trenton 5-0 in a makeup game Saturday.

Kyler Ostrowski had the other goal and Brady Jaskula and Dominic Fiorito spent time in goal for the 7-1-1 Marauders.

Monroe blanked

ANN ARBOR −Talen Swinkey and Austin Dunn played well for Monroe (2-6-2) in a 2-0 loss to Ann Arbor Skyline Saturday.

"A penalty in the first half and a goal in the last few seconds separated the teams," Monroe coach Ian Cooke said. "Solid performance."

PREP VOLLEYBALL

Bedford falls in semis

BATTLE CREEK −Bedford went 3-1-1 and advanced to the semifinals in of the Battle Creek Lakeview Invitational. The Mules fell there to Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern 25-21, 25-17.

In pool play, Bedford defeated Schoolcraft 25-12, 25-22 and Battle Creek Pennfield 25-10, 25-14, and split with Portage Northern 25-19, 21-25. Bedford won 25-11, 25-23 over Bronson in the quarterfinals.

Victoria Gray led the Mules, hitting .512 with 25 kills and 12 blocks. Kaylin Schroeder had 66 assists, Kadie Morse hit .273 with 12 blocks, Rylee Haberland recorded 49 digs, and Taylor Destatte served 33 points.

Bedford improved to 16-5-1 overall.

Airport takes silver

TAYLOR – Airport went 4-0 and won the Silver Bracket of the Taylor Tournament Saturday.

RaeAnn Drummond (12 kills), Peyton Zajac (25 assists) and Joelle Shrewsbury (24 assists) led the Jets.

CROSS COUNTRY

Ida girls fourth

BRIGHTON – Katelyn Bydlowski ran fifth individually to help Ida’s girls claim fourth place in the Bronze Division of the Averill Invitational Saturday.

Julia Hughes was 17th for the Blue Streaks.

Airport's Kenny Wingate and Seth Haliburda ran 10th and 13th individually and the Jets were fifth in the boys standings. Emily Sell ran 26th for Airport's girls.

Ida's boys were 15th in the boys standings, led by Jack Gelso in 15th.

Sophomores leads Mules

TIFFIN, Ohio –Nick Balla took 23rd and fellow sophomore Aidan Ortiz was close behind in 30th as Bedford’s boys placed eighth out of 21 teams in the Division 1B of the Tiffin Carnival Saturday.

JV VOLLEYBALL

Monroe wins tourney

ADRIAN – Monroe beat Summerfield in the finals to win the Adrian Madison Junior Varsity Tournament Saturday.

Mia Miller, Mia Samples, Riley Soldwish, Maya Stone and Addie Spoering played well for Summerfield.
