ERIE – Summerfield’s girls basketball team scored 46 points Thursday night.

But that wasn’t enough against Erie Mason.

Lizzy Liedel matched the point total for Summerfield’s entire team with 46 in leading the Eagles to a 73-46 victory.

She also had 19 rebounds and 6 steals.

“Lizzy Liedel had another amazing night tonight,” Mason coach Josh Sweigert said. “She played phenomenal again tonight. She did a great job of getting to the basket and finishing at the rim. It was great to see her shots falling and her converting at the free throw line."

Summerfield coach Mickey Moody thought Liedel’s rebounding might have been more important than her scoring.

“Erie Mason flat out rebounded us tonight and Liedel got a lot of points from second and third opportunities from the glass,” he said.

Mason, which improved to 10-3 overall and 7-0 in the Tri-County Conference, also got 14 points and 5 rebounds from Kaylie Bash. Monica DeGasto added 8 points and Lani Stevens grabbed 9 rebounds.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Ida shuts down Dundee

DUNDEE – Ida was not looking to focus its defense on any one player Thursday night.

Dundee senior Mckenna Salley came into the match averaging over 18 points per game, but that really wasn’t Ida’s biggest concern.

“There was not a specific defensive plan other than to play hard-nosed defense,” Ida coach Tim Leonard said.

That’s exactly what the Blue Streaks gave their coach as they earned a 41-31 victory over their arch-rivals to pick up their fifth win of the season.

“Ida girls basketball matured a little bit tonight,” Leonard said. “Ida has struggled to play with any urgency for four quarters. Tonight they finally did it.”

Ida held Dundee to just 4 points in the second quarter to take a 24-13 lead into halftime. Dundee came out in the second half strong and outscored Ida 12-4 in the third quarter, but the Blue Streaks refocused and held the Vikings to just 6 in the final period.

Salley managed just 5 points – all from the free-throw line – for Dundee thanks to the defense of Katherine Hovest. Hovest also provided an offensive touch. She led Ida with 7 points in the first half and finished with 9 overall.

Jessica Schrader scored 10 for Ida, which spread the offense with five players scoring 5 or more points. Ida improved to 5-7 overall and 3-6 in the Lenawee County Athletic Association.

“The first quarter we came out looking pretty good, then went downhill from there,” Dundee coach Josh Salley said. “We couldn’t make a shot to all night and turned the ball over way too much. It just wasn’t our night.”

Heather Spare and Faith Stahl led Dundee with 8 points apiece. The Vikings fell to 7-7 overall and 4-5 in the LCAA.

Ida won the junior varsity game 57-39. Olivia Scheer had 16 points to lead Ida and Rylee Shaffer added 11.
