NEW BOSTON – New Boston Huron's softball team barely slipped by Jefferson.

Huron coach Tedi Belisle wasn't afraid to admit her team clung to a slim 5-3 victory Friday night.

"Some days surviving is as important as winning," Belisle said. "Today we survived."

It was the second time this season that the Bears have given Huron fits.

"Jefferson has played us hard both games and will be a challenge as our first game in Districts," Belisle said. "Proud our kids did just enough."

Huron scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to rally for the win.

A solo home run from Jefferson's Julia Perry gave the Bears the early lead in the top of the first inning. Huron tied the game in the bottom of the frame and then took a a 2-1 lead in the third on a solo home run from Madison Miles – the first of the junior's career.

Jefferson retook the lead in the fourth, scoring twice to go ahead 3-2.

Ellen Town provided the winning spark for Huron in the fifth, singling on a 2-2 count to drive in a pair of runs.

Miles, Emma Sic, and Rylie Greggo had two hits apiece for Huron. Greggo was the winning pitcher.

"It was a must-win game," Belisle said. "Big week next week, so we knew this was not a game we could drop."

Lindsey Gennoe added two hits for Jefferson.

PREP SOFTBALL

Mason tops SMCC

ERIE – Erie Mason scored seven runs in the second inning to defeat St. Mary Catholic Central 9-5 Friday.

Alayna Stevens was 4-for-4 to lead a 12-hit attack for Mason. Maddie Moore finished 3-for-4 and Aubree Winzeler collected two hits.

Meadow Paolino, Jenna Kapp, and Emma Gessner had multiple hits for SMCC.

Elmer delivers for Monroe

YPSILANTI – Ashton Elmer delivered twice to lift Monroe to a pair of victories Friday against Ypsilanti Lincoln 3-2 and 8-5.

Elmer had a walk-off hit in the 11th inning in the first game and kept his momentum going with a home run and three RBI in the nightcap.

Caleb Winkelman was the winning pitcher in Game 1, combining with Kellen Roberts and Owen Yount for a three-hitter.

Noah Miller had two hits and a RBI in the opener and earned the win on the mound in Game 2, allowing just two hits and striking out 12.

Breylon Richards was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI and Yount finished 3-for-3 with a pair of stolen bases.

Monroe improved to 18-6 overall and 12-5 in the Southeastern Conference Red.

Airport bats hot

MILAN – Airport bookended Friday's game with strong offense to defeat Milan 12-3.

Airport scored three runs in the first inning to take the early lead and went ahead 8-0 in the third. The Jets added four more runs in the sixth after Milan scored three runs to dig into the lead.

Brayden Moore led the Jets' 14-hit attack with two hits, including a home run. Adam Goins had three hits, while Shade Daniels, Nolan Zajac, and Dominic Jones added two apiece. Jason Himebauch was the winning pitcher.

"Hats off to Airport. They came with energy and enthusiasm and we came out flat," Milan coach Adam Gilles said. "They hit the ball hard all day. Glad to get this type of game out of our system as we move towards New Boston (Huron) on Monday."

Evan Morelock had three hits to lead Milan.

Dundee sweeps Madison

DUNDEE – Drew Bolster had a strong pitching performance to get Dundee started on the right track Friday for an 11-0, 8-6 sweep of Adrian Madison.

Bolster pitched five shutout innings, allowing six hits and a walk with five strikeouts. The Vikings supported him with 11 runs in the first two innings.

Dundee held off a Madison rally in the nightcap as the Trojans scored five runs in the final three innings after the Vikings had built an early 7-1 lead.

Ryan Zanger led at the plate, finishing the day with four hits, five RBI and two runs scored, and Trevor Schroeder collected three hits, including a home run and a triple. Chris Lafountain (2 hits, 4 RBI), Bolster (3 hits, 2 runs), Evan Imo (3 hits, 2 runs), and Cooper Buhl (2 RBI, 2 runs) also were strong.

PREP GOLF 

Red Devils rule league 

Grosse Ile had the top three individual scores and ran away with the Huron League Meet at Green Meadows Friday.

The Red Devils shot 302 to win by 25 strokes over New Boston Huron. Riverview was third with 333 followed by St. Mary Catholic Central 343, Airport, 359, Milan 372, Flat Rock 422 and Jefferson 427.

Marco Tylutki shot 79 and Nick Kosiba 82 to lead Huron. Both of them made first team All-League along with Matthew Zwack of SMCC (84).

Drew Vuich (86), Dom Marvaso (86), Jackson Heflin (87) and Carson Kinsey (88) all made the second team for SMCC. Other second-team berths went to Huron’s Tyler Toth (85), Jake Trythall of Airport (85) and Clayton LaBelle (87) and Max Jenness (88) of Milan.

Hudson tops in LCAA

OTTAWA LAKE – Ida was sixth with 202 and Dundee seventh with 216 in a Lenawee County Athletic Association jamboree Friday.

Hudson was first with 171.

Zackary Bailey of Ida tied for eighth individually with 45 and teammate Wade Johnston shot 48. Jack Salenbien led Dundee with 51. Zachary Tackett added a 52 for the Vikings.

VanHuysen places fifth 

ADRIAN – Eli VanHuysen shot 95 to tie for fifth place in the Tri-County Conference championships Friday.

His teammate Braylon Stover was 10th with 105, but the Bulldogs did not field a full team.

Erie Mason, which finished fourth in the team standings with 482, got a 117 from Mia Balcerzak and 119s from Camden McMullen and Rylee Grodi.

Adrian Madison took first place with 352.

PREP TENNIS

Season ends for three

GROSSE ILE – Chelsea dominated the Division 2 Regional Thursday at Grosse Ile, winning the title in all eight flights to finish first with 24 points.

Milan was third with 7 points, Airport fifth with 3, and New Boston Huron sixth with 1.

Milan's No. 3 doubles team of Allyson Held and Carlie Barron were runner-up after falling 6-0, 6-1 in the championship round. The Big Reds also had wins from Jessica Lubke (No. 2 singles), Ally Jones (No. 4 singles), Kaitlyn Pfeiffer-Ryan Legier Demond (No. 2 doubles), and Gwen Jones-Ava Pustulka (No. 4 doubles).

Winning matches for Airport were Ellie Ferrante (No. 1 singles), Makayla Ridner (No. 2 singles), and Allison Clegg (No. 3 singles).

Huron's Adrianna Skene and Rachel Bulifant won a first-round match at No. 4 doubles.

PREP SOCCER

Roberts leads Jefferson

Abby Roberts scored two goals to lead Jefferson to a 3-2 victory over Hazel Park Friday.

Kadence Armetta also scored and Reanne Roberts and Alexa Brewer played well in goal.

Huron falls 

ANN ARBOR – New Boston Huron fell 4-1 to Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard Thursday.
