Kestrels struggle

MANCHESTER – A Manchester team with 10 returning starters was too much for a young St. Mary Catholic Central team Wednesday, blitzing the Kestrels 8-0.

“We couldn’t find our offensive foot and we got caught on our heels in the box,” SMCC coach Laura Perry said. “We compounded mistakes that cost us the game and our pride.”

New goalkeeper Maddie Zaleski had a strong game and freshmen defenders Brianna Lynch and Nora Kinsey played well in their first varsity match.

Huron drops opener

NEW BOSTON – New Boston Huron fell into a 4-0 hole at halftime and dropped its opener against Dearborn Divine Child 5-0 Wednesday.

Rylie Cassette, Kendyl Sikorski, and Maggie Mentzer had good scoring chances for Huron.

“All 18 girls played, but for 13 of them it was their first time playing varsity,” Huron coach Matt Lividini said. “Once this young team fixes those errors, they should become a serious contender.”

Poli scores three
