Local Sports: Late rally lifts Milan; Sisters power Monroe

MILAN – Milan exploded for 10 runs in the last two innings to pull away from Jefferson for a 14-4 victory Monday.

"We were doing 4-3 in the fifth and made some critical mistakes that kind of snowballed for us,” Jefferson coach Chad Liptow said.

Milan racked up 15 hits.

Leila Daniels led the way, going 3-for-4 with a home run, four RBI and three runs. Madison Mazei, Hailey Knox, Madison Gray, Tierra Ronayne and Hailey McCleary had two hits each.

Mariah Stines racked up 12 strikeouts to earn the win.

Carly Grassley went 3-for-3 for Jefferson.

PREP SOFTBALL

Sisters power Monroe

DEXTER – Sisters Macy Collett and Avery Collett homered in the second game as Monroe beat Dexter 7-3 Monday.

Allie Hall went 3-for-4 and Maci Willey added two hits for the 8-13 Trojans.

Monroe battled back after falling into a 4-0 hole in the first game, but fell 7-6. Willey and Natalie Kelley had two hits each.

Mules split with Saline

TEMPERANCE – Bedford bounced back after losing a tough 4-1 decision in eight innings to Saline in the first game to take the nightcap 12-9 Monday.

Payton Pudlowski went 4-for-9 with two doubles, two RBI and three stolen bases and Sydney Shammo was 3-for-8 with a double, triple and two stolen bases to lead the Mules. Alexia Moussaed homered and Maddie Henegar pitched well.

Sic logs three hits

GROSSE ILE – Emma Sic went 3-for-4 as New Boston Huron racked up 12 hits to outslug Grosse Ile 9-3 Monday.

Savannah Karver, Sierra Diegel, and Brielle Musallam added two hits each to support the pitching of Rylie Greggo, who struck out a career-high 13.

Rams stop Airport

CARLETON – Flat Rock cruised past Airport 8-2 Monday as Addison Kopp and Matajia Cerroni each went 3-for-4.

Maddie Portis and winning pitcher Ryen Clair added two hits each.

Kaitlyn Poe doubled twice for Airport and Danielle Dalpiaz and Jazzy Porter also had two hits each.

SMCC gets even

CARLETON – St. Mary Catholic Central squared its record at 9-9 with a 5-1 win over Airport in the Huron League Tournament Monday.

Sarah Netter scored twice for the Kestrels and Ava Kuehlein contributed a goal and two assists. The other goals were scored by Emma Zaleski and Maddie Hamilton.

“The girls’ passing and communication allowed them to find success early on in the game, connecting the ball through the middle into the final third,” SMCC coach Laura Perry said. “It was nice to see the shots on goal come from a variety of players today."

Alex Wickenheiser also was a key to the attack and Maddie Hamilton, Leah DeSarbo, and Ana Perna played well.

Bradley leads Rams

FLAT ROCK – Marissa Bradley scored three goals and Alexa Sollars and Bella Thomas netted two as Flat Rock blitzed Jefferson 8-0 Monday in the Huron League Tournament.

Courtney Kraszewski had the other goal, Megan Woelkers was credited with two assists, and Thomas one.

Rambags lifts Ida

ONSTED – Tinke Rambags recorded two goals and two assists as Ida beat Onsted 5-4 Monday.

Hayden Mannor scored the other goal and made a corner kick that resulted in an own goal by Onsted. Rilee Weatherholt also scored and Claire Allen had an assist.

Dundee overpowered

CLINTON – Dundee was no match for Clinton Monday, falling 8-0.

Hubbell breaks record

ANN ARBOR – Dundee's teams both finished with 10-2 dual meet records after the boys beat Ann Arbor Greenhills 116-21 and the girls won 72-64 Monday.

Cole Hubbell broke the school record in the discus with a throw of 149-9. Other first place finishers fwere Johnny Swisher (both hurdles), Colton Bordine (100, 200 and long jump), Isaak Rubley (1, 600, 3,200), Dallas Bensch (400), Lucas Hernandez (800), Brayden Ratliff (shot-put), Logan Johnson (high jump) and Noah Nieman (pole vault).

Girls winners were Brooklynn McBee (high hurdles), Kaylee Spaulding (100), Madison LaVoy (pole vault), Mylee Salenbien (high jump), the 3,200 relay of Lia Parry, Natalie Swisher, Kaylee Hovey and Bridget Watestradt and the 400 relay of Mirra Borg, McBee, Spaulding and Mariah Costelli

Bloomer, Weiher excel

TEMPERANCE – Jake Bloomer and Zach Weiher had two hits each as Bedford beat Saline 8-4 Monday in the second game of a doubleheader.

The Mules dropped the opener 6-0.

Ida takes both titles

ADRIAN – Ida's boys and girls both won championships Saturday at the Adrian Madison Invitational.

Abbigail Johnson, Julia Hughes, Alyssa Torres, Riley Rowe, Gabriana Gardner, Teagan Williamson, Jaxon Bolster, Ramzy Tippin, Luke Stanley, Ayden Beersdorf, Evan Tengler, Brenner Nelson, Dylan Jarret and Jacob Young all won individual events for the Blue Streaks.

AUTO RACING

Lee wins again

FLAT ROCK – Eric Lee wants to keep his title.

Last year’s Super Late Model champion at Flat Rock Speedway has two wins in the first two weeks of this season.

Saturday he passed Chris Benson on lap 27 and led the rest of the way in the 50-lap feature race.

Other winners were Ron Allen (Street Stocks A Main), Taylor Papineau (Street Stocks B Main) and Jeremy Vanderhoof (Figure 8).

Toledo debuts with buses

TOLEDO – AJ Padgett won the School Bus Figure-8 feature Sunday on the opening day of the season at Toledo Speedway.

Greg Stillwell (Late Models), Randy Padgett Jr. (Factory Stocks) and Dave Lambert (Boat Figure 8) also won.

Wahoski scores three

Eric Wahoski scored three goals and Travis Campbell and Sophie Mapes also scored to lead Krug's Team (2-0) to a 7-4 win over Deportivo Monroe in the Monroe Adult Spring Soccer League at Munson Park Sunday.

Eduardo Aldana, Jesus Diaz-Lucero and Cristian Medina-Riverca scored for 1-1 Deportivo.

BASKETBALL

Champions crowned

The team of Timothy Garner, Gabriel Woods, Brayden Jewell and Joel Breeding won the first Monroe County Community College Intramural Sports Club 3 on 3 Tournament Saturday.

Breeding won the 3-point shooting contest.

The runners-up were Samuel Wassef, Caden Weaver, Brian Holmes and Hunter Holmes

The club was started last fall by MCCC student Levi Couch and is advised by full-time English professor Lori Jo Couch. Each week more than 20 students often gather on campus to play basketball and volleyball and sometimes venture out for a night of bowling.
