Faith Dean gave St. Mary Catholic Central a little bit of everything Friday in a 1-0 victory over Flat Rock.

Dean pitched a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts over seven innings and delivered the game-winning RBI to give the Kestrels a victory over a Rams' team that came into the night tied for first in the Huron League.

"Faith Dean was the star of the show," SMCC coach Danielle Williams said. "Not only did she throw the game of her life, she hit the game-winning RBI.

"Our girls played solid defense, made some great plays. Our communication was key today. Our offense started off popping out. We talked about adjustments we needed to make and the girls made it happen."

Dean hit an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning to drive home Jenna Kapp and break a scoreless tie.

Matajia Cerroni had the lone hit for Flat Rock. Kayla Giroux took the tough-luck loss, allowing one run on three hits and striking out five over six innings.

PREP SOFTBALL

Chesney delivers winner

ERIE – Alexa Chesney delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Erie Mason a 4-3 win over Blissfield Friday.

Chesney and Aubree Winzeler had two hits each for the Eagles.

Lizzy Liedel went 2-for-3, but Erie Mason fell 6-1 in the second game.

PREP BASEBALL

Whiteford keeps winning

OTTAWA LAKE – Shea Ruddy had three hits and Logan Tammerline and Cooper Ruehle added two each as Whiteford whipped Hudson 7-2 Friday.

Cole Crouch was the winning pitcher for the 17-4 Bobcats.

Mason bats quiet

OREGON, Ohio – Erie Mason had hits from six different players, but fell 10-0 to Clay Friday.

Bryce Diehl doubled for the Eagles.

PREP SOCCER

Dundee defense strong

BLISSFIELD – Dundee's defense, led by Helena Johnson, Sara Marek, Sara Straka, Sarah Merkel, Brylee Taylor and Joni Mitchell, was strong, but the Vikings fell 4-0 to Blissfield Friday.

Ida blanked

IDA – Clinton overpowered Ida 8-0 Friday.

PREP GOLF

Airport takes third

GIBRALTAR – Airport shot 350 to take third place behind Grosse Ile (329) and Trenton (330) in the Marauder Invitational at Lake Erie Metropark Friday.

New Boston Huron was fifth with 358, Gibraltar Carlson 11th with 367 and Flat Rock 14th with 456.

Collin Lackey and Jake Trythall each shot 85 for Airport. Elie Kolasa and Zackary Sisk paced Carlson with 88s.

Monroe falls short

ANN ARBOR – Shorthanded Monroe shot 190 to finish behind Ann Arbor Pioneer (158), Dexter (164) and Pinckney (186) Friday.

Christian-Koszka Lombardo shot 40 and Brenden McCulloch 43 for Monroe.

JUNIOR HIGH SOFTBALL

Wagar stops Rams

CARLETON – Brooklyn Martin pitched a perfect game with 16 strikeouts and also had twp hits as Wagar handed Simpson its first loss of the season 3-0 Friday.

Simpson won the second game 6-3 as Sarah Giroux logged two hits.

GOLF

Arble shoots ace

Pat Arble used a 5-iron to shoot a hole-in-on on the 155-yard No. 17 hole at Green Meadow Golf Course Friday. It was his first ace.
