Local student awarded Georgia Foundation for Agriculture Scholarship
Jun. 8—Micah Jones of Mableton, a rising senior at the University of Georgia College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences, has been selected to receive a scholarship from the Georgia Foundation for Agriculture.
He is one of eight rising college juniors and seniors statewide selected to receive a $2,000scholarship. Jones is pursuing a bachelor of science degree in horticulture.
He aspires to earn a master's degree in horticulture and then a Ph.D. in horticulture or a related field so he can pursue a career developing new plant varieties as a horticultural researcher.
As a UGA student, Jones is an active member of the UGA Horticulture Club and the UGarden Club. He volunteers as a cook with Not Church Athens and Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen and is a member of the newly created Athens Herb Collective.
The scholarships recognize deserving and outstanding students who are seeking a degree in agriculture or an ag-related degree at a college in the University System of Georgia, Berry College or Emmanuel College.
