Lake Gibson FFA Alumni awards scholarships

Lake Gibson FFA Alumni awards scholarships annually to accomplished Lake Gibson High School seniors who are members of Lake Gibson's Future Farmers of America and who will be attending post-secondary education schools in the fall following graduation. Three scholarships were awarded to graduating seniors April 22. Two Willis Richards Memorial Scholarships were awarded to seniors Michael Shaw and Kaley Baxter. The Farris Fast Plumbing Scholarship was awarded to Hannah Lovering. The awards were presented by Kenny Raney Jr., member Lake Gibson High School Alumni Association.

Piedmont University

Sarah Fox of Lakeland received a Rising Star Award. Piedmont University's 2022 Student Organization & Leaders Awards are presented to rising sophomores, juniors and seniors for exhibiting exceptional leadership ability, contribution to campus life, university pride, and potential for other leadership roles. Recipients exhibit a strong sense of school spirit and maintain good academic standing.

Harrison student films showcased

Harrison School for the Arts featured the following student films in its Motion Picture Arts Film Showcase this year. PG13 Rated Films: "Love At First Encounter" written by Bobbie Rosenkranz, directed by Bobbie Rosenkranz and Melannie Sanchez; "Epic Horse Fight" written and directed by Rose Knight; "Daddy Gags" written and directed by Nevaeh Boggs; "Career Day" written and directed by John Noel Wibert; "Mr. Sinister’s Talk Show" written by Chloe Croft, directed by John Noel Wibert; "The Boom Brothers" written and directed by Connor Wright and Andrew Cheyne. "Mr. Sinister’s Talk Show" was also an official selection of the 2022 Gasparilla International Film Festival. "Epic Horse Fight" was also an official selection of the 2022 Sunscreen Film Festival.

Upper Iowa University

Angel Tapia of Haines City was awarded the 2022 Florida Alumni Chapter Scholarship at Upper Iowa University.

Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi

Michala Haggins and Stephen Soler, both of Lakeland, were recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the all-discipline collegiate honor society, at Florida State University. Jini Curry of Lakeland was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, a collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines at the University of Maryland, Baltimore Campuses. Mark Motsch II of Haines City was initiated at the University of Florida. The following people recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at Florida Southern College: Lindsey Hanger of Bartow, Kaitlin Watkins of Auburndale, Mollie Tew of Kathleen, Adelaide Knight, Peyton McCain, Stephen Roth, Emma Edgar, Wendy Kiesewetter, Meagan Franklin, Madison Johnston all of Lakeland. Beatrice Dela Pena and Leslie Raysin, both of Lakeland, were initiated at Auburn University.

Concordia University Nebraska

Noah Fenton of Auburndale presented at Concordia University Nebraska's 2022 Research Symposium. Concordia Nebraska's 11th annual Academic and Research Symposium provided students with an opportunity to showcase their achievements to the campus community April 25.
