Local students compete in WMTA piano competition

Mar. 15—SUPERIOR — The Superior Area Music Teachers Association, a local chapter of Wisconsin Music Teachers Association, held their district audition at the University of Wisconsin-Superior March 6. There were 33 participants representing four teachers — Dr. Hector Landa, Alex Sandor, Roberta Grube and Eliana Lammi.

Six students qualified to compete at the state level, which will take place May 21 at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls following district auditions. Students who will move on include Selah Swanson, Gabriel Thomas, AJ Ketola, Benjamin Jondreau, Gianna Jones and Alexander Schelde.

Points are awarded each year and accumulated over time. Those who received their 22-point plaque this year include Julia Shamla, Grace Schmidt, Jedidiah Romich and Bella Persch. The 50-point bar was awarded to Kyle Granquist, Cayden Bartelt, Edmund Pearson and Gianna Jones.

The 100-point plaque was earned by Hailey Gilderman, Riley Eberhardt, Reagan Eberhardt, AJ Ketola and Gabriel Thomas.

Asher Gilderman received his 125-point bar and Madilyn Carey earned her 150-point bar.

Selah Swanson earned her 175-point bar and four year high school participation medal.
