Local students take grand prize in statewide music competition

Jun. 3—At the Franklin Pond Chamber Music Competition on May 29, three local students took home the grand prize in the Middle School Division.

Thirteen ensembles statewide competed in front of world-renowned judges for cash prizes at Spivey Hall at Clayton State University in Morrow.

The Spitzrenreiter Piano Trio won the grand prize in the Middle School Division. The trio consists of Ethan Lo, 13, of Dickerson Middle School; Ethan Nie, 14, of Autrey Mill Middle School; and Lucas Liu, 13, of Dickerson Middle School.

The weekend of competition was hosted by Franklin Pond Chamber Music, an educational non-profit that has provided chamber music instruction to skilled string students for over 20 years. The FPCM Competition is in its sixth year and is the only event of its kind in the Southeast.
