LOCAL TRACKS: Adams takes feature at Evergreen

Jun. 23—Micah Adams of Lake Ariel won for the second time in four races at Evergreen Speedway in St. Johns outside Drums, taking the checkered flag in the 40-lap feature that was Race No. 2 of the six-race Evergreen / Mahoning Valley Speedway Duel Track Series for Four-Cylinder Stocks.

Adams, who recently graduated from eighth grade in the Western Wayne School District, passed his father Scott for the lead on lap 6 and drove away for a dominant victory. When the caution came out with two laps remaining, Micah was lapping cars inside the top 10.

Scott Adams wound up finishing third.

Win for Tonkin

Brett Tonkin of Carbondale captured the 30-lap Modified feature at Afton Motorsports Park in New York.

Starting eighth, Tonkin quickly made his way to the front. He moved into second place on lap 3, then took over the lead and stayed there the rest of the way.

Darwin Greene from Susquehanna finished 12th. Old Forge's Bobby and Brian Puckett were 16th and 17th, respectively. Nick Mady of Dingman's Ferry was 22nd and Dan Vauter from Forest City was 25th.

In the division standings, Tonkin is third with 298 points, 12 behind leader Shaun Walker of Masonville, New York. Vauter is eighth with 204 points and Greene ninth with 197. Bobby Puckett is 11th with 184 points, Hawley's Brian Mady 15th with 167 points, Nick Mady 19th with 153 points and Brian Puckett 24th with 111 points.

Sprint Speedweek

The 33rd annual Pennsylvania Sprint Car Speedweek begins Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg. The 10-race schedule then heads to Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown on Saturday and BAPS Motor Speedway in York Haven on Sunday.

On Monday, the series heads back to Lincoln Speedway before heading to Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville on Tuesday and Hagerstown Speedway in Maryland on Wednesday. After an off day Thursday, the rest of the schedule is Williams Grove on June 30, Port Royal Speedway on July 1 and Selinsgrove Speedway on July 2 before wrapping up at Port Royal on July 3.

Dan Stone of Thompson wound up 10th in the final standings of Appalachian Mountain Super Late Model Speedweek with 2,548 points. In the final three races, Stone finished 12th at Bedford Speedway, 17th at Lincoln Speedway and 10th at Selinsgrove Speedway. ... Nick Rochinski from Dickson City took second in the Modified feature at Big Diamond Speedway in Minersville. Alex Yankowski of Covington Twp. was 15th and Scranton's Bobby Trapper Jr. was 22nd. ... South Canaan's Eddie Strada finished 12th in the 30-lap Modified feature at Grandview Speedway and Trapper Jr. was 14th. Strada is eighth in the division standings with 1,590 points and Trapper Jr. is 10th with 1,462. ... Larry Kelleher Jr. from Scranton competed in the NASCAR Youth Series event at the Blackbird Quarter Midget Racing Club track in New Castle, Delaware. He qualified for four A-Mains and had two wins (Senior Honda, LT 160), one second (Formula Mod) and one fifth (LT World Formula). He also was 12th in Senior Animal. ... With last week's program postponed by rain, Penn Can Speedway in Susquehanna rescheduled Pappy Beaven Memorial Night for Friday at 7 p.m. The event honors the track's founder and features Modifieds, Sportsman, Limited Sportsman, 600cc Modifieds, Factory Stocks and Four-Cylinders. Also, there will be a Sportsman Dash 4 Cash. The top two in each heat will qualify for the six-lap dash that pays $250 for first, $100 for second and $50 for third. ... Hamlin Speedway is idle this week. It returns July 1 with all divisions racing, highlighted by the All-Star Slingshot Firecracker 100.
