LOCAL TRACKS: Busy schedule at Penn Can Speedway

·6 min read

Jun. 11—There is plenty of action on tap this weekend at Penn Can Speedway in Susquehanna.

It starts tonight at 7 with a complete weekly show minus the 602 Sportsman. Highlighting the program is a visit from the Patriot Sprint Tour.

Last year, the Tour made its first visit to Penn Can since 2007 and raced there twice. Davie Franek and Matt Farnham were the winners.

Through three races this season, Franek, from New Jersey, has one win and leads the standings with 436 points.

Eleven points back in second place is Jordan Thomas of Harding. Thomas has finishes of second, fifth and ninth this season.

On Saturday and Sunday, the track hosts the District 6 Cross Country Coyote Run Hare Scrambles. Grandstands open at 8 a.m. and racing is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Admission is $10. More information can be found on Penn Can Speedway's Facebook page.

Finally, the first of Penn Can's two "Hot Summer Night" specials is Monday. It includes the GRIT Racing Series 602 Sportsman in a 30-lap feature paying $1,000 to win; the GRIT Racing Series 600cc Modifieds in a 20-lap feature paying $500 to win; and a special Four-Cylinder 20-lap feature paying $1,000 to win.

Gates open at 5 p.m. Hot laps start at 6:30 p.m. with racing beginning at 7 p.m.

Bounty hunting

Susquehanna's Tommy Groover has won all three Factory Stock regular-season feature at Five Mile Point Speedway in Kirkwood, N.Y., so far.

As a result, the track has put a $300 bounty on Groover. The driver who can beat him in the 20-lap feature Saturday can claim the bonus, provided that Groover finishes the race on the lead lap. The bounty cannot be claimed if he has a mechanical problem and is not on the track.

If Groover wins, he will receive a $50 bonus.

Racing at Five Mile Point on Saturday starts at 6:15 p.m.
