LOCAL TRACKS: Kelleher claims four titles in series

Jul. 22—It was a clean sweep for Larry Kelleher.

The 10-year-old from Scranton competed in the Northeast Dirt Regional Series, a three-race circuit at USAC dirt quarter midget tracks in York Haven in May, Phoenixville in June and Hagerstown, Maryland, in July.

Kelleher ran four race classes and won the points title in each.

In Senior Honda, he had two wins at York Haven and Phoenixville and a second at Hagerstown to finish with 357 points, 19 ahead of the second-place driver.

He had finishes of fifth, third and first in Light 160 to wind up with 344 points, seven better than the runner-up.

After placing fourth at York Haven, he won the next two Senior Animal races at Phoenixville and Hagerstown to total 352 points and take that title by 25 points.

Lastly, in Light World, he finished first, eighth and second to score 341 points and eke out that title by two points.

Five Mile Point Speedway in Kirkwood, New York, has its annual "Pack The Track Night" on Saturday at 6:05 p.m. Grandstand admission is $5. All divisions are scheduled to compete. ... Hamlin Speedway holds a regular program Saturday at 5:45 p.m. ... Happy birthday to Alex Yankowski from Covington Twp., who turns 18 on Friday. Last week, he finished sixth in the weekly Modified feature at Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon, N.Y. He also was sixth in the "Thunder On The Thruway" Series event at Fonda Speedway in New York. ... Doug Smith of Mount Cobb finished sixth in the 25-lap Modified feature at Thunder Mountain Speedway in Center Lisle, N.Y. ... Tompkinsville's Ben Whitaker was sixth in the ULMS Super Late Model Series 30-lap race at Big Diamond Speedway in Minersville. In the 25-lap Modified feature, Nick Rochinski from Dickson City was seventh, Lake Ariel's Dan Hineline was 19th and Eddie Strada of South Canaan was 22nd. Rochinski ranks third in the track Modified standings with 977 points, 110 behind leader Duane Howard. Strada is sixth with 822 points. ... Tommy Cadwalader of Mayfield had finishes of third and second in the North American F1000 Championship Series races July 8-10 at Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, Illinois.
