LOCAL TRACKS: Pocono Xfinity Series race gets a name

May 26—Pocono Raceway announced that the Pocono Mountains

Visitors Bureau will return as sponsor of the Xfinity Series race during the

NASCAR race weekend July 21-23 at the 2.5-mile triangular track in Long Pond.

The Explore the Pocono Mountains 225 will be held Saturday, July 22 at 5:30 p.m. It is one of four races to be held at the track over three days. The weekend begins Friday, July 21 with the ARCA series race at 6 p.m. On Saturday, the CRC Brakleen 150 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race is scheduled for noon. In March, Pocono and CRC Industries announced a multi-year extension of their sponsorship that began in 2021.

On Sunday, the Pocono 400 NASCAR Cup Series race caps the weekend at 2:30 p.m.

Last year's Xfinity Series race was won by Noah Gragson, who held off a hard-charging Ty Gibbs over the final laps to take the checkered flag.

Busy holiday

Memorial Day weekend traditionally is a busy weekend for motor sports and this year is no exception.

It also is Susquehanna County Night with fans showing proof of residency admitted for $5.

Then Sunday, Penn Can has a Memorial Day Special at 6 p.m. Headlining the card is the KC Cole Memorial 24 NYPenn IMCA Modified Series event. Other features scheduled are Sportsman and Street Stocks paying $1,000 to win; Factory Stocks paying $500 to win; and Four-Cylinders paying $350 to win.
