LOCAL TRACKS: Super DIRTcar Series race at Bloomsburg canceled

Jul. 8—Bloomsburg Fair Speedway was scheduled to host the Super DIRTcar Series on Wednesday. That race, however, has been canceled.

Recently, the track laid down 75 truckloads of new clay in all four corners in an ongoing effort to improve the racing surface.

When it became apparent that the improvement would not be completed in time for Wednesday's race, raceway officials and the series sanctioning body mutually agreed it would be best to cancel the event.

The Super DIRTcar Series still is scheduled to compete Tuesday at Big Diamond Speedway in Minersville. The "Anthracite Assault" is a 75-lap Modified feature paying $7,500 to win. It will be the first time in six years that the series is racing in Pennsylvania.

Also on the program are the 602 Crate Sportsman paying $1,000 to win and Roadrunners paying $500 to win.

Grandstands open at 4 p.m., warmups begin at 7 p.m. and racing starts at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $30 for adults and $10 for students ages 10-15. Kids under 10 are free of charge.

Alex Yankowski of Covington Twp. is 11th in the series standings with 719 points after six events. He trails leader Matt Sheppard from Waterloo, New York, by 103 points.
