LOCAL TRACKS: Yankowski takes second in STSS Delaware event

May 19—Covington Twp. teen Alex Yankowski finish second to Billy Pauch Jr. in the Short Track Super Series "Diamond State 50" on Wednesday night at Delaware International Speedway in Delmar, Delaware. It was race No. 2 on the STSS Modified South Region schedule.

Starting 14th, Yankowski took advantage of numerous cautions midway through the race to move up to third place by lap 34. He passed Danny Bouc for second with less than 10 laps remaining. A caution on the final lap set up a one-lap shootout to the checkered flag and Pauch Jr. was able to hold off Yankowski for the victory.

"We haven't won a Short Track Super Series race yet," Yankowski, 18, said on the STSS website. "That's really bugging us, but I promise to everybody that's pulling for us that we'll get one sooner or later."

Pauch Jr., from Frenchtown, New Jersey, is the son of Northeast Dirt Modified Hall of Famer Billy Pauch Sr. His win was in the series since 2021 and seventh overall.
