Local voters to determine major bond proposal for Royse City ISD Saturday

May 4—Voters in Royse City will head to the polls Saturday to determine the fate of a multi-million dollar bond package for the Royse City ISD, as well as one contested race on the district's Board of Trustees.

Voting is scheduled 7 a.m.- 7 p.m. Saturday. On election day, Rockwall County voters may vote at any of the following locations:

— The Center at Rockwall City Place, 108 E Washington St., Rockwall

— Fate City Hall, 1900 CD Boren Pkwy, Fate

— Heath City Hall, 200 Laurence Drive, Heath

— McLendon-Chisolm City Hall, 1371 W FM 550, McLendon-Chisolm

— Rockwall County Library, 1215 E. Yellowjacket Lane, Rockwall

—Royse City Hall, 305 N. Arch Street, Royse City

The $863 million bond package is listed under two propositions on the ballot.

Proposition A covers 98.5% of the proposed package and would include a second high school, ocated on FM 552 in Fate; the David and Shirley Magness Middle School located near FM 35 just south of Interstate 30; three elementary schools; an early childhood center; renovations and expansions to Royse City High School via Fine Arts, Royce Swiney Facility and turf fields for student use; a new Epps Education Service Center; a transportation center; a distribution center, security improvements; technology infrastructure and fixtures; and land for future district sites.

Proposition B would include 1.5% of the total proposed package and, if approved by voters, would pay for a home locker room for the second high school at RCISD Stadium; as well as install additional restrooms and parking at the stadium; an additional stadium exit and and entrance and a visitor side bleacher expansion.

If approved, the total will be funded through property value growth within the district and with a zero tax rate increase.

Two spots are on the ballot for the election, Places 1 and 2.

Incumbent Bobby Summers filed for the Place 1 post and is running unopposed, while Stormie Foster and Amanda Self are seeking the Place 2 position. Place 2 incumbent Christa Cannon chose not to seek reelection.
