“We are saddened to share the recent passing of our beloved groundhog, Queen Charlotte, at the ripe old age of nine,” Discovery Place Nature said in a post to its Facebook page.

Queen Charlotte, the local Punxsutawney Phil, made her winter weather forecasts from the Discovery Place Nature Center in Freedom Park.

She arrived at the facility in 2014 and “served as an ambassador for her species and the Museum,” the nature center said.

The groundhog -- who shared the same name as her predecessor -- made a private weather forecast in 2015 before a public debut in 2016, according Channel 9′s partners at the Charlotte Observer.

According to the nature center, Queen Charlotte had retired to a life of her favorite fruits and nuts earlier this year.

“Queen Charlotte lived a long and illustrious public life,” the Discovery Nature Center said
