Local wrestlers win titles, secure CIF-SS spots at league championships

Four area leagues held their individual wrestling championships last weekend. The top three to four finishers — depending on the size of the league — in each weight class qualified for the CIF-Southern Section Individual Championships, scheduled for this Friday and Saturday. Other placers earned alternate status.

The Channel League and the Marmonte League boys wrestlers will compete in Coastal Division at Westminster High. The Coastal Canyon League boys wrestlers will compete in the Eastern Division at Capistrano Valley High. The Citrus Coast League boys wrestlers will compete in the Central Division at Yucaipa High.

The Channel League and the Marmonte League girls wrestlers will compete in the Coast Division at Canyon Springs High. The Coastal Canyon League girls wrestlers will compete in the Northern Division at San Dimas High. The Citrus Coast League girls wrestlers will compete in the Southern Division at Corona High.

COASTAL CANYON LEAGUE

Royal finished with six individual boys champions and Camarillo, which won the league boys team title, had five champions at the Coastal Canyon League wrestling finals Saturday at Camarillo High.

In the 106-pound division, Logan Hansen of Royal defeated Dayle Cailles of Valencia by decision, 5-0, to win the title. Andrew McAdam of Simi Valley won by decision, 6-2, over Nathan Palmer of Camarillo in the third-place match.

At 113 pounds, Mason Carrillo of Royal won by fall in 3:14 over Jovejit Gaur of Simi Valley to win the title. Salvador Ardon of Camarillo won by major decision, 9-0, over Om Kulkarni of Valencia in the third-place match.

At 120 pounds, Logan Andrews of Moorpark won by fall in 5:15 over Arturo Alfaro of Camarillo to earn the league title. Andrew Fazeli of Royal received a bye to take third place.

At 126 pounds, Joshua Requena of Camarillo won by fall in 1:15 over Brody Denham of Royal to win the title. Fabrizio Sandoval of Valencia won by decision, 11-5, over Cole Stieglitz of Simi Valley in the third-place match.

At 132 pounds, Emilio Medina of Camarillo won by fall in 1:15 over Caleb Williams of Simi Valley to capture the title and earn Lower Weight MVP honors. Alek Boghossian of Royal received a bye to take third place.

At 138 pounds, Daniel Simons of Camarillo won by fall in 3:13 over Blake Purvis of Royal to win the title. Logan Petit of Valencia won by decision, 12-8, over Trevor Arruda-Gonzalez of Moorpark in the third-place match.

At 145 pounds, Tomas Fulgentes of Royal won by major decision, 13-3, over Christopher Alvarez of Camarillo to win the title. Dean Gibson of Simi Valley won by fall in 2:19 over Eric Morales of Moorpark in the third-place match.

At 152 pounds, Benjamin Kirk of Royal won by major decision, 10-2, over Andrew Gonzalez of Camarillo to earn the title. Mason Flame of Moorpark won by fall in 1:14 over Trentin Binns of Simi Valley in the third-place match.

At 160 pounds, Michael Saenz of Camarillo won by fall in 1:49 over Neo Neri of Simi Valley to win the title. Skyler Swaine of Royal received a bye to take third place.

At 170 pounds, Nicholas Madrigal of Royal won by tech fall, 18-0, over Balmoris Ardon of Camarillo to claim the title. Michael Voigt of Simi Valley won by fall in 1:51 over Justin Campos of Valencia in the third-place match.

At 182 pounds, Alex Munoz of Valencia won by tech fall, 21-6, over Brett Williamson of Moorpark to win the title and earn Upper Weight MVP honors. Haruki Fechner of Camarillo won by disqualification over Casey Nunnally of Royal to take third place.

At 195 pounds, Daniel Gurovich of Camarillo won by forfeit over Calvin Velasco of Royal to secure the league title. Alex Lopez of Valencia won by fall in 1:39 over Kenjiro Taguchi of Simi Valley in the third-place match.

At 220 pounds, Peter Fulgentes of Royal won by fall in 1:36 over Jaylen Collins of Camarillo to win the title. Jairdan Chopra of Valencia received a bye to take third place.

At 285 pounds, Christopher Ramirez of Moorpark won by decision, 3-1, over Michael Kelly of Camarillo to win the title. Sebastian Alcala of Royal received a bye to take third place.

In the girls finals, Camarillo had eight wrestlers win league titles.

Aubrey Soto was the 106-pound champion; Angelina Morrison won the 121-pound title; Leslie Barragan won the 126-pound title; Sofia Fernandez won the 131-pound title; Miranda Dixon won the 150-pound title; Taetum Naumes won the 160-pound title; Trinity Tipton was the 170-pound champion; and Makensey Schlimgen was the 189-pound champion.

Ireland Donnelly of Royal earned the 111-pound title and Cali Santoy of Camarillo was second. Jeannie Salazar of Moorpark finished second at 150.

CHANNEL LEAGUE

Buena and Santa Barbara each finished with three boys individual champions, Oxnard, Rio Mesa and San Marcos each had two champions, and Ventura and Dos Pueblos each had one champion at the Channel League wrestling finals at Rio Mesa High on Saturday.

Jacob Dominguez of San Marcos won the 106-pound title, Angel Estrade of San Marcos won the 113-pound title, Rylan Pedroza of Buena won the 120-pound title, and Cervando Tapia of Oxnard won the 126-pound title.

Shaun Vaque of Dos Pueblos won the 132-pound title, Daniel Rundle of Ventura won the 138-pound title, Niko Proft of Santa Barbara won the 145-pound title, and Hector Medina of Oxnard won the 152-pound title.

Angel Parra of Santa Barbara won the 160-pound title, Jon Miller of Buena won the 170-pound title, Jose Escobar of Santa Barbara won the 182-pound title, and Andrew Gonzalez of Buena won the 195-pound title.

David Perez of Rio Mesa won the 220-pound title and Anthony Garcia of Rio Mesa won the 285-pound title.

Three days after winning CIF-SS Division 2 team duals title for the first sectional championship in program history, the Ventura girls team had 11 wrestlers place in the Channel League finals to qualify for the CIF-SS Individuals.

Lily Jade Sinclair won the 106-pound title and was named the Lower Weight MVP.

Reagan Monsour (121), Avalynn Ramos (126), Haley Padilla (131), Emmie Fago (137) and Bela Smith (143) won league titles in their respective divisions. Haven Kenoss (170) placed second. Annabelle Blanda (101), Jocelyn Medina (116), Hannah Benson (111) and Sabrina Scott (189) each finished third.

MARMONTE LEAGUE

Thousand Oaks, which won the league team title, had five individual boys champions to lead the way at the Marmonte League wrestling finals Friday at Westlake High.

Jackson Riggio of Thousand Oaks won the 106-pound title by defeating Rocco Shams of Westlake in the final.

Noah Ingersoll of Newbury Park defeated Nikolas Vahadi of Westlake to win the 113-pound title.

Aidan Vasquez of Westlake won the 120-pound title by defeating Enzo Bocalatte of Agoura in the final.

Sean Gross of Calabasas defeated Oliver Caputo of Newbury Park in the final to win the 126-pound title.

Zeke Bussiere of Agoura won the 170-pound title by defeating Camden Hill of Thousand Oaks in the 170-pound final.

James Rocha of Thousand Oaks won the 182-pound title by beating Tasman Cassell of Newbury Park in the final.

McKenzie English of Westlake defeated Madison Black of Newbury Park to claim the 126-pound title and was named the league's Female Wrestler of the Year. Bella Wojciechowski of Thousand Oaks earned the 137-pound title by defeating Marlena Erickson of Newbury Park in the final.

Evan Watt of Newbury Park was the 143-pound champion. Emma Sardell of Calabasas defeated Susanna DeShields of Newbury Park to win the 150-pound title. Maya Garza of Newbury Park was the 189-pound champion. Cherish Hall-Taoai of Thousand Oaks was the 235-pound champion.

CITRUS COAST LEAGUE

Channel Islands, which won the league team title, had five individual boys champions, Nordhoff had three, and Santa Paula, Fillmore and Hueneme each had two at the Citrus Coast League wrestling finals Saturday at Fillmore High.

Alexander Torres of Channel Islands won the 108-pound title. Benicio Robles of Hueneme was second and James Zellmar of Nordhoff took third.

Jacob Marin of Santa Paula captured the 115-pound title. Reweis Kirlos of Hueneme finished second and Agustin Franco of Channel Islands was third.

Nathan Torres of Fillmore won the 122-pound title. Adam Hernandez of Hueneme took second and Ashton Belcher of Nordhoff finished third.

Michael Alcantar of Fillmore won the 128-pound title. Tomas Juarico of Hueneme finished second and Cole Prichard of Nordhoff was third.

David McCormick of Hueneme won the 134-pound title. Alejandro Ortiz of Nordhoff earned second and Ismael Frias of Santa Paula finished third.

Emmanuel Martinez of Channel Islands won the 140-pound title. Leonell Hernandez of Hueneme placed second and Elias Ramirez of Santa Paula was third.

Timothy Burke of Channel Islands captured the 147-pound title and was named the Lower Weight MVP. Sol McGarey of Nordhoff finished second and Ulises Vasquez of Hueneme placed third.

Robert Maria of Hueneme won the 154-pound title and was named the Upper Weight MVP. Tiernan Dolan of Nordhoff was second and Carlos Alamillo of Santa Paula finished third.

Diego Del Manzano of Nordhoff won the 162-pound title. Noe Navarro of Hueneme finished second and Raul Santa Rosa of Santa Paula was third.

Gael Montano of Nordhoff won the 172-pound title. Guillermo Cervantes of Channel Islands was second and Leonardo Garcia-Sandoval of Hueneme placed third.

Ryan Worsham of Nordhoff won the 184-pound title. Pedro Diaz of Fillmore took second and Brandon Magana of Santa Paula finished third.

Athen Montes of Santa Paula was the 197-pound champion.

Andres Gonzalez of Channel Islands won the 222-pound title. Victor Ramirez of Nordhoff finished second and Gary Orozco of Hueneme placed third.

Alexis Perez of Channel Islands won the 287-pound title. Hayden Velasquez of Nordhoff was second and Michael Perez of Hueneme took third.

In the girls finals, Santa Paula, which won the league team title, had four champions, Nordhoff and Hueneme had three, and Channel Islands finished with two.

Irma Rodriguez of Santa Paula won the 103-pound title. Keyra Cruz of Channel Islands finished second.

Lilly Ann Stringer of Nordhoff won the 113-pound title.

Emily Hernandez of Hueneme won the 118-pound title. Amma Sullivan of Nordhoff finished second, Isabella Orozco of Santa Paula was third, and Mariah Capp of Channel Islands took fourth.

Emma Torres of Santa Paula won the 123-pound title. Luciana Cervantes of Channel Islands was second and Bianca Hurtado of Hueneme was third.

Jayleen Garrett of Nordhoff won the 128-pound title and was named the Lower Weight MVP. Sarah Alvarez of Santa Paula took second and Adamaris Montiel of Hueneme placed third.

Layla Maria of Hueneme was the 133-pound champion.

Audrey Diaz of Hueneme won the 139-pound title and was named the Upper Weight MVP.

Mia Hernandez of Channel Islands won the 145-pound title. Alexa Martinez of Fillmore was second and Kaytlin Jimenez of Hueneme finished third.

Angelie Barrozo of Santa Paula won the 152-pound title.

Emily Rimkus of Nordhoff won the 191-pound title. Zoey Zavala of Santa Paula finished second.

Andrea Ramirez of Santa Paula won the 237-pound title. Ericka Soto of Hueneme took second.
