Locally... Crystal Springs, ZDGA junior tournaments nearing

Crystal Springs hosting Junior tournament

Crystal Springs will host a Junior Golf tournament on July 28 for boys and girls ages 9-18. There will be five divisions (9-12 boys and girls, 13-18 girls, 13-15 boys, 16-18 boys and college), and tee times start at 8 a.m.

Entry Fee is $25 for ages 13 and up (includes 18 holes, food, & drink) and $20 for 9-12 and includes 9 holes, food, & drink).

Deadline is July 23. Tee times will be emailed out the day prior to the tournament. To register, email crystalspringsgolf@hotmail.com with subject line of Junior Tournament and provide name, age, gender, email, cell phone, and school or call Crystal Springs at 740-787-1114 and ask for Jocele (Mon, Wed, Thurs, & Fri 7 am-2pm; and Tues after 2 pm).

ZDGA Junior, Collegiate tourneys nearing

The Zanesville District Golf Association will hold Junior and Collegiate tournaments on July 26-27. The event is for boys and girls, ages 12-22 and must by 12 by July 26, and features the first round at Vista and the second at EagleSticks.

Deadline to enter is July 22. Entry fee is $40. Flights will be determined after the first round.

Muskingum holding annual golf outing

The Muskingum University Athletic Department is hosting its annual golf outing at EagleSticks at 11 a.m. Friday, July 15. Cost is $100 per golfer or $400 per foursome and includes 18 holes of golf, drink tickets, raffles, and dinner.

All proceeds from the event benefit Muskie student-athletes. Additionally, the event will feature a golf ball drop contest $10 per ball with a chance to win $1,000 if your ball lands closest to the hole or in the hole.

Rosecrans having soccer camp

The Junior Bishops Soccer Camp, for boys and girls in grades K through 8th, will be held July 18-20 at Rosecrans High School. Camp runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. each day.

Cost is $35 per child. Campers signed up by July 4 with receive camp shirts.

John Glenn Friendship 7-Miler Race nearing

New Concord will celebrate the 60th anniversary of John Glenn’s Friendship 7 mission with the second annual Friendship 7-Miler race at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, July 9. The run is sponsored by the John Glenn High School Cross-Country and Track & Field Boosters.

The course runs from Cambridge to New Concord along US 40 and will be part of the village's Fireman's Festival.

Jackson hits ace, highlights Green Valley League results

Randy Jackson had his first ever hole in one during Monday's Senior League at Green Valley Golf Club. He used a 9-iron to ace the 130-yard 6th hole, as his team shot 51 to win the league. The shot was witnessed by Joe Simmons, Tom Porter and Rick Lothes.

Second place was Scott Seymour, Mark Ferguson, Randy Davis & Bud Lupher with 54; third was Don Wiles, Vern Wolfe, Russ Coen & Ron Ayers with 54; and fourth was Larry Hammer, Jim Sprague, Dan Marks & Roy Reid with 56.

Closest to the pin winners were Jackson on 6 and 16, Ayers on 11 and Ferguson on 15.

In the MHPCC League, Kathi Galloway shot 34 for low gross and had low net of 22. Winning teams were 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10.

The Wednesday Night Parettes had Juanita King with low gross of 27 and King and Gay Higdon with low net of 25. Winning teams were 1, 2, 4, 7, and 10.

In the Rice-Galloway Optometry League, Roger Moore and Denny Bryan shot 32s for low gross and low net was 25 by Scott Haren. Low net teams were Y City Wellness and Bogey's with 117s.

Don Cassidy & Rick Lashley fired 36 for low gross while Cassidy had 29 for low net in the GEYER FAMILY INSURANCE Wednesday League.

ZCC league results

The Charlie Goelz League held its Midseason Roundup with a Foursome: 1 best ball par 5’s, 2 best balls par 4’s and 3 best balls par 3’s game.

Brian Addis, Bob Moon, Kevin Jones and Brian Wagner won at 11-under, while second place on a scorecard playoff was Mike West, Mike Zimmerer, Jerry Nolder and Justin Hardcastle at 10-under. Third at 10-under was Rick Campbell, Doug Waltman, Jason Rosser and Lucas Graham. Tom Selock made the longest putt on No. 17 (15-feet-3), and Joe Allen was closest to the pin on No. 7 (6-9).

The Thursday Evening Ladies League played the Foursome – 2 Best Balls Par 3’s and 1 Best Ball Par 4’s and 5’s format on the front nine.

Shari Weingarth, Joan Minning, Ann Melick and Susan Thompson won with 33, while Toby Rogovin, Ann Somple, Lisa Johnson and Janet Pompei were second with 34, and Becky Weir, Connie McWherter, Linda Phillips and Karen Murray took third with 35 on a scorecard playoff.

In Junior Golf on Friday, Jane Saunders earned player of the day, and 9-Holers were led by Low Score: Carter Hennessey & Cohen Todd; Low Putts: Landon Melsheimer & Jackson Cooper.

The Crystal Springs Golf Club and Community Bank Monday Morning Senior League held its Mid-Year Outing, as the top three teams in the A Division were First Place Frank Sidwell & Richard Poland; Second Place Tommy Georgiades & Dave King and Third Place Terry (Chub) Chambers & Dick Strouse

The top three placing teams in B Division were First Dave Purkey & Bill Aichele; Second Ron Hayes & Marvin Fisher; Third Randy Newell & Mark Ballmer.
