MVOTA hosting Legion baseball tourney

The Muskingum Valley Old-Timers will be hosting the District 11 American Legion Tournament at Gant Stadium from July 15-20.

The five-team team double elimination bracket consists of Barnesville, Beverly-Lowell, Cambridge, St. Clairsville, and Zanesville. The tournament starts at 6:30 p.m. Friday with St. Clairsville and Barnesville squaring off, while the winner plays Zanesville at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Gieseler hits aces in Junior League

Jacqueline Gieseler had a hole-in-one with a gap wedge on the 100-yard 12th hole during the Tuesday PGA Junior League at Zanesville Country Club.

She was a member of The Virtues team, which won 11-4, and played with Molly Montgomery, Madelyn Melsheimer, Camryn Melsheimer and Landon Melsheimer.

Rosecrans having soccer camp

The Junior Bishops Soccer Camp, for boys and girls in grades K through 8th, will be held July 18-20 at Rosecrans High School. Camp runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. each day.

Crystal Springs hosting Junior tournament

Crystal Springs will host a Junior Golf tournament on July 28 for boys and girls ages 9-18. There will be five divisions (9-12 boys and girls, 13-18 girls, 13-15 boys, 16-18 boys and college), and tee times start at 8 a.m.

Entry Fee is $25 for ages 13 and up (includes 18 holes, food, & drink) and $20 for 9-12 and includes 9 holes, food, & drink).

Deadline is July 23. Tee times will be emailed out the day prior to the tournament. ZDGA Junior, Collegiate tourneys nearing

The Zanesville District Golf Association will hold Junior and Collegiate tournaments on July 26-27. The event is for boys and girls, ages 12-22 and must by 12 by July 26, and features the first round at Vista and the second at EagleSticks.

Deadline to enter is July 22. Entry fee is $40. Flights will be determined after the first round.

Catholic Social Services holding golf fundraiser

Catholic Social Services will be holding their annual golf scramble at noon Aug. 5, at Fuller’s Fairways.

Entry fee is $300 per four-player team which includes skins game, lunch, & door-prize drawing. A $500 grand prize lottery drawing with all teams eligible in addition to cash prizes awarded for the top two places in the scramble.

Arch Memorial Golf Outing to be held

The Dennis Roehrig “Arch Memorial” will be held with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. on Aug. 20 at Jaycees Golf Course.

The outing provides scholarships to students at West Muskingum High School who are continuing their education at The Ohio State University. For more information, contact Scott Wilson at 740-586-7699.

Results from Crystal Springs Leagues

The Crystal Springs Golf Club and Community Bank Monday Morning Senior League A Division saw low gross of 39 by Steve Clark, Rick Lashley and Terry (Chub) Chambers, and low net was 32 by Bobby Melshimer and Steve Clark.

Winning teams were 3-5-1-13-11-7 and 9 & 6 tied.

In the B Division, Tim Paul and Dwight Stewart tied for low gross at 36 and low net was 30 by Chuck Bailey and George Hiotis. Winning teams were 8-11-2-5-12-16-7 and 1 & 10 tied.

In the Tuesday Evening Hittle League, Christian Hayden fired 34 for low gross and Les Farmer had low net of 30. The winning teams were 3, 8, 4, and 5.

Results from Green Valley Leagues

Kathi Galloway and Becky Weir tied for low gross at 34, and Galloway had low net of 25 in the MHPCC Ladies League. Winning teams were 4, 9, and 10 and 2 and 6 tied.

The Wednesday Night Parettes had Mary Burkhart with low gross of 34 and low net of 25. Winning Teams were 1, 2, 3, 6, 10 and 12.

Dee Ann Mell had low gross of 33 and Ruth Havens & Debbi Bollinger tied for low net of 24 in the Edward Jones/Scott Barr Ladies League. Mary Farmer had a chip-in on No. 13 and Havens and Shirley Rush won the weekly game of least putts.

Winning teams were 1, 2, 4, 6, 7 and 10.

Don Seevers posted low gross of 28 and low net of 22 and Green Valley was low net team with 107 in the Rice-Galloway Optometry League.

"The Greens" Tuesday Couples Scramble League was led by the team of Bob & Lynn Werry, and the team of Dan & Eli Moore, who tied for low gross score of 33, while Dan & Eli Moore shot low net score of 28.

Winning teams were Bob & Lynn Werry, Brady & Rose Campbell, Dave & Karen Lyons, Dan & Eli Moore, Jim & Lucy Cook, Joel & Trista Harris, and Joe & Sarah Sampson.

Closest to the pin winners were: Bob Werry on No. 13 and Lynn Werry on No. 18.

Jay Smith fired 32 for low gross and Danny Searls had 26 for low net in the GEYER FAMILY INSURANCE Wednesday League.

Results from ZCC Golf Leagues

In the Ladies Auxiliary League on Wednesday, they played a Count Only Odd Holes – Best Ball Net format. The 18-hole winners at 8-under net were Lisa Johnson, Ann Somple and Susan Benincasa. Connie LaPlante, Vicky French, Linda Phillips and Jan Schowinsky were second at 7-under, and Lucy Cook, Paula Brunton and Deb Hennessey were third at 6-under.

For 9 Holers, Diane Decenso, Tami Swope and Marie Bolin won on a scorecard playoff at 4-under. Becky Weir, Deedee Dodson, Toby Rogovin and Joan Minning were second at 4-under, and third with 2-under was Connie McWherter, Linda Graham and Cindy Linn.

Minning was also closest to the pin on No. 12 (5-feet-5).

The Charlie Goelz League played a Foursome 3 of 4 Net Best Ball, and the winners on a scorecard playoff were Kevin Miller, Dan Sylvester, Brian Addis and Lucas Graham at 12-under.

Second at 12-under went to Joe Allen, Scott Webb, Jerry Nolder and Dave Grosshandler, and third, on a scorecard playoff at 9-under was Robb Huntsman, Mike Morris, Nick Roberts and Jason Hardcastle. Huntsman made the longest putt on No. 11 (11-feet-3), and Miller was closest to the pin on No. 18 (11-6).

The Thursday Evening Ladies League played the Two Blind Mice – Net BB Blind Draw format. Linda Phillips and Lou Taylor won with a score of 27, while Lisa Johnson and Toby Rogoving and Keely Dempsey and Paula Brunton each scored 30.

In Junior Golf, Layne Stubbs earned player of the day honors, and 9 Hole Winners were Low Score: Max Higdon & Cohen Todd; Low Putts: Caden Parker & Carter Hennessey.
