Locally... MVOTA holding tryouts, golf league results

MVOTA holding baseball tryouts

The Muskingum Valley Old-Timers will have tryouts, ages 15-19, for the Senior and Junior American Legion Post 29 Baseball teams from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 28 at West Muskingum High School.

If still in tournaments at that time, come to register, but you cannot try out. For more information call Randy Bonifant at 740-319-3828 or Pat Corder at 740-819-6080.

The Junior Pioneers, ages 16-21, will hold tryouts from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 28 at West Muskingum High School. Players cannot have reached the age o 22 before May 1 of this year to play. The Juniors will play in the National AAABA tournament in Johnstown, PA.

Youth League scores

In 12U Muskingum Valley League Baseball, West Muskingum The Energy Cooperative defeated John Glenn Zemba Brothers 13-0. Austin Fink homered with two singles, Dente Tyson had three singles, Amari Harris homered and singled, and Coby Wright had two singles to lead the winners.

In 8U EMYL/WMYL, National Bank defeated Goodman Steel 6-3. Colten Ansel hit 2 triples and a double. Kohan Gee smashed a single, a double and a triple and Jaxen Moss added a triple and 2 singles for the Park National Bank team. Winston Goodman had a double and a single for the Goodman Steel team.

In 8U West Muskingum Youth League Softball, West M Schmidty's defeated West M Undertakers 23-2. Schmidty's was led by Elyn Knaup and Madison Imlay with 5 hits, Malia Rice and Parker White with 4 hits, and Ava Walter, Coplee Flowers, Kinley Rice, and Ali Whetstone with 3 hits each. Undertakers was led by Brielle Grubb, Bristol Sands, Gabby Cox, and Allison Wilson with 2 hits each.

John Glenn Perry Merry K-9 defeated West M Undertakers 21-7. The Undertakers were led by Rae McGee, Bristol Sands, and Gabbie Cox with 3 hits each, and Annie Higdon and Penelope Higdon with 2 hits each.

New Concord Wayne Manufacturing defeated West Muskingum The Undertakers 12-11. The Undertakers were led by Annabelle Higdon with 5 hits, Brielle Grubb and Bristol Sands with 4 hits, and Hailey Lazor and Penelope Higdon with 3 hits each.

Green Valley hosting Junior Golf Clinic

Green Valley will hold a Junior Golf Clinic for 10 weeks on Fridays, starting on June 3 and running through Aug. 5.

This is for boys and girls ages 8-12 and 13-17 and runs from 8 a.m. to noon each Friday. Classes will begin with 45 minutes of instruction, while beginning golfers will go to All Seasons for the first two weeks to learn grip, set up and full swing.

There will be handouts and golf favors, and we will discuss golf etiquette, basic rules, and on course management during the clinic. Parents and guardians are welcome to stay during the lessons.

Cost is $180 in advance for nine weeks and receive a week free or pay $20 per week. For more information, call the pro shop at 740-452-7105.

Vista Seniors have ties for top spots

The Vista Senior Thursday League saw ties in both divisions.

Bob Wise and Brent Bunting shot 35s for low gross in the Palmer Division, while Rusty Carr, Tom Denton and Jamie Slate had 38s. Low net with 32 was Frank Clifton followed by Wise with 33 and Fred Steinbrecher and Terry Matchett with 34s.

Steve Johnson & Tony Beardmore lead the division with 12 points with Jim Sander & Jim Roberts at 11.5 and Chuck Ford & Bob Kimble and Terry Matchett & John Crown at 11.

Terry Balo and Larry Kimble fired 42s for low gross in the Nicklaus Division with Richard Dunn at 43 and Earl Orend at 44. Low net was Al Hall with 31 with Mike Roberts at 32, Tim Younkins at 33 and Balo at 34.

Dan Fulks & Tim Younkin and Dave Phillips & Jim Grubb are tied for the division lead at 10 points with Weldon Adams & Danny James at 9.5

ZCC hosted Thursday Ladies League

The Zanesville Country Club Thursday Evening Ladies League played the 3 Blind Mice – 2 Best Ball Net format.

The team of Becky Weir, Megan Durst, Debbie McLain and Jan Schowinsky shot 42 and won on a scorecard playoff. Second with 42, was Connie LaPlante, Janet Pompei, Linda Phillips and Susan Baltzer and third with 45 was Joan Minning, Cindy Linn, Shari Weingarth and Connie McWherter.

Galloway paces Rice-Galloway League

Steve Galloway shot 31 for low gross and Josh Riley posted low net of 26 in the Rice-Galloway Optometry League at Green Valley. Shai-Hess Real Estate shot 116 as low net team.

Team Standings: South Zanesville Eyecare 14, Urban Comforts 13, Shai-Hess Real Estate 13, Military Drive Thru 11.5, Green Valley 11, YCity Wellness 10, Bogey's 9, Liberty Home Mortgage 8.5, Coconis Furniture 8, Lazy Acres 2.

Cox, Forker lead Coconis League

Zack Forker shot 34 for low gross on the front nine, and Dave Cox shot 35 for low gross on the back in the Coconis Furniture Tuesday Night League at Eaglesticks. Jim Bowen posted a low net of 26 on the front nine and Jarret Daniels and Steve Woodward had low net of 29 on the back.

Muskingum holding annual golf outing

The Muskingum University Athletic Department is hosting its annual golf outing at EagleSticks at 11 a.m. Friday, July 15. Cost is $100 per golfer or $400 per foursome and includes 18 holes of golf, drink tickets, raffles, and dinner.

All proceeds from the event benefit Muskie student-athletes. Additionally, the event will feature a golf ball drop contest $10 per ball with a chance to win $1,000 if your ball lands closest to the hole or in the hole.

JG T&F/CC Boosters holding golf outing

The John Glenn Track & Field/Cross Country Boosters are hosting a Golf Scramble at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 11, at the Jaycee Public Golf Course in Zanesville. Single golfers are $60, while teams of four are $240, which includes a gift and lunch.

There are also $5 skins game, $10 Milligan, and other special games available. Payment can be made to John Glenn Track Boosters c/o Doug Joy, 13115 John Glenn School Rd, New Concord, OH 43762.

Sponsorships are also still available. Opportunities include a Gold Level ($500), Silver ($300), Bronze ($250), and Tee and Green Sponsor ($50). Businesses interested in participating should contact Rich Hoffman at 740-359-4769.
