Locals honor the fallen during parades, ceremonies

ZEELAND — Memorial Day festivities began with parades in several communities across West Michigan on Monday, May 29, including the Zeeland Memorial Day Parade along Main Avenue.

The parade to honor the fallen began at 9 a.m. and was followed by a ceremony at Zeeland Cemetery at Lincoln Street and Church Street.

Holland also hosted a Memorial Day Parade at 9:30 a.m. Monday beginning at the corner of Eighth Street and Central Avenue. The parade concluded at Pilgrim Home Cemetery, where there was a public program. The parade was organized by the Holland Memorial Day Committee.
