Who locked a chastity belt onto the Biloxi-Ocean Springs bridge? ‘Oh my Lord!’

All across Biloxi Bay, the people of Ocean Springs celebrate love by linking their initials to the Highway 90 bridge with locks — and something weird.

It’s a chastity belt.

The steel device currently locked on the Biloxi Bay bridge is more commonly referred to as a chastity cage today and is voluntarily used on men for celibacy. The device is placed over the penis and locked into place. Chastity cages are also sometimes used by couples in dominant/submissive relationships.

It’s not clear who put the chastity cage on the bridge or why, but it’s grossing some lovebirds out. Someone posted a photo of the cage on the Ocean Springs Talk of the Town Facebook page. The picture has amassed more than 200 comments.

“Oh my lord!” one resident said. “I thought it was a dog collar.”

“My first thought is, “oh, people putting locks on the bridge like Love Lock bridge in Paris,” said another. “What the heck is this?”

The cage and other locks have been placed on the Ocean Springs side of the bridge near a bench used for rest and sightseeing.

Others shrugged it off. “Laugh a little, dude,” another person commented. “It’s clean obviously, so no harm other than a prank.”

Ocean Springs Police said they had not received any calls about the belt but would likely send Public Works to remove it.

“I don’t know,” said police Capt. Ryan LeMaire. “We have more pressing stuff going on than that.”

Thousands of cars travel the Biloxi Bay Bridge daily and the pedestrian lane is popular for people who like to walk, jog and bike the bridge.
