According to a news release, Uhrlass became involved as a North Carolina Apple Festival volunteer at the suggestion of a friend and has served as its recording secretary since 1999. Uhrlass and her husband, Arnold, relocated from New York, the release said.

She said being on the Apple Festival Board is the highlight of her life because of the numerous locals she has met and become close with the apple growers' community.

“The Apple Festival is such a positive part of (my) life in Hendersonville and (I) continue to be impressed and inspired by others on the board and committees that work quietly and diligently all year," she said in the release.

Parade applications are still available for various categories, including commercial and non-profit entries. Professional floats available for lease by calling the Apple Festival office at 828-697-4557. The North Carolina Apple Festival is held each year on Labor Day Weekend along Main Street in downtown Hendersonville to celebrate apples, which are one of the most important agricultural crops grown in Henderson County, the release said. There are currently 91 active apple growers contributing, and they produce an estimated 3 million bushels annually, which, according to the release, is 80% of this state’s apple supply with an average income of $30 million.

The opening ceremony will kick off at 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 1 at the Historic Henderson County Courthouse. Headlining the opening-day entertainment is Buddy K Big Band, which will be playing from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

The North Carolina Apple Festival is a non-profit entity, organized and operated by an all-volunteer Board of Directors and volunteer event staff.
