Marvel has moved to shore up the slate of talent behind the upcoming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty by hiring Loki boss Michael Waldron as the new writer.

Waldron is already a key part of the MCU staffroom as he created the Disney+ series Loki and also wrote Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Waldron is already writing Avengers: Secret Wars, which will directly follow Kang Dynasty. Now, however, he will pen both major Avengers pictures as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania scribe Jeff Loveness wrote a previous draft of Kang Dynasty.

Kang Dynasty has recently undergone some setbacks after Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton dropped out. Cretton will still work with Marvel on Wonder Man and Shang-Chi 2 but Kang Dynasty is still without a director after his exit.

Plus, Kang actor Jonathan Majors' future in the MCU is still the subject of speculation and scrutiny as he awaits trial on misdemeanor charges of assault and harassment.

Kang was set to be a key part of the MCU as the new big-bad. He was the over-arching villain of the multiverse in both Loki and Quantumania, while the post-credits scene of the latter revealed the Council of Kangs.

Kang Dynasty currently has a release date of May 1, 2026. Secret Wars will be released a year later on May 7, 2027.

Loki, meanwhile, may have resulted in huge success for Disney+ but head writer Eric Martin has revealed that there are no plans for a third season.

"We approached this as like two halves of a book. Season one, first half. Season two, we close the book on Loki and the TVA. Where it goes beyond that, I don't know. I just wanted to tell a full and complete story across those two seasons," he said.

Loki season 1 and 2 is streaming on Disney+.
