The royal family gathered on the balcony at Buckingham Palace today for the Queen's birthday Trooping the Colour celebration. And aside from the excitement of Prince Louis making his debut royal appearance in public, we couldn't help but notice one other thing: Prince George was separated from his cousin, Savannah Phillips.

Last year, then-four-year-old Prince George was stood next to then-seven-year-old Savannah for the duration of the RAF plane flyover. But while all sorts was going on overhead, the pair seemed more interested in entertaining one another.

George and Savannah were photographed pulling funny faces, laughing, and generally pushing the boundaries at the 2018 ceremony. And it didn't go unnoticed by the adults, if this picture is anything to go by...

And even a stern glance by one of the older girls didn't seem to dampen Savannah and George's fun at the 2018 Trooping the Colour:

But this year, the royal family planned things a little differently. While we obviously loved seeing the lols between the youngsters, Trooping the Colour is meant to be a serious military event, so somebody intervened this year with the balcony organisation.

Instead of putting Prince George next to his cousin, the two were separated, with Prince William, Kate Middleton and their three children to the left-hand-side of the balcony, while Savannah Phillips, her sister Isla and their parents, Peter and Autumn stood to the right.

It was a shame for us onlookers that Prince George and Savannah were split up, but you can kind of see why. At Princess Eugenie's wedding both Savannah and George were in the bridal party, and photographs captured one particularly cute/naughty moment when Savannah tried to make Prince George laugh by playing a fake trumpet while he was trying to focus on his v important page boy duties.

I mean, you've got to give it to her. She is pretty funny to be fair. Still, no more sugary sweets for these two at official royal events.
