New London celebrates Water Days with parade, races and plenty of fun in the sun

Jul. 17—NEW LONDON

— Hundreds of people converged on downtown New London Saturday for the penultimate day of the annual New London Water Days community celebration. On a warm and sunny summer day, a multitude of activities offered family fun for all ages.

The Lions Pancake feed and Mill Pond Mile Run kicked off the day, with the Grand Day Parade proving to be a high point of the celebration. Dozens of floats wove through the parade route, providing not only sights and sounds, but quite a bit of candy as well.

Following the parade, the New London Fire Department held its hog roast. The more energetic kids ran, bounced and slide through different bouncy houses at the Water Days carnival.

Throughout the third week of July there were various activities and events from the medallion hunt, an ice cream social with the New London-Spicer Community Band, other outdoor concerts, tournaments for tennis, bean bags and fishing, sidewalk sales, a show by the Little Crow Ski Team and a fireworks show.
