NEW LONDON ‒ Village voters approved joining a natural gas aggregation program in 2015 but it never got going.

With rising energy costs increasing interest in these bulk-buying programs, Aspin Energy Corporation representative Jay Sells spoke to Village Council Monday night about the village moving forward with the plan.

He said all natural gas customers would automatically be switched to whichever gas provider the village chooses. Those who don't want to join could opt out later without paying a fee.

Council did not take any action but could move forward with the program in the future.

Sells said this program is working well in Wakeman and Shelby and urged anyone with questions to contact him directly.

In other action, Village Administrator Shawn Pickworth said Park Avenue water main replacement project is complete and the backordered parts for the wastewater treatment plant project have arrived.

He said the village will be asking permission from Ohio Department of Transportation to reapply for the downtown project, which includes sidewalks, paving and light poles. The Hileman Building project is still in the planning stages.

He invited the public to attend the dedication of the new batting cages in Recreation Park at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 1. They were funded by Fisher-Titus Medical Center.
