New London County's new COVID cases flat; Connecticut cases holding steady
Connecticut reported 4,188 new cases of coronavirus in the week ending Sunday, from 4,191 the week before of the virus that causes COVID-19.
Connecticut ranked 40th among the states where coronavirus was spreading the fastest on a per-person basis, a USA TODAY Network analysis of Johns Hopkins University data shows. In the latest week coronavirus cases in the United States increased 10.8% from the week before, with 654,873 cases reported. With 1.07% of the country's population, Connecticut had 0.64% of the country's cases in the last week. Across the country, 16 states had more cases in the latest week than they did in the week before.
New London County reported 384 cases and zero deaths in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported 370 cases and one death. Throughout the pandemic it has reported 65,776 cases and 699 deaths.
Windham County reported 89 cases and two deaths in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported 143 cases and zero deaths. Throughout the pandemic it has reported 28,905 cases and 314 deaths.​

Within Connecticut, the worst weekly outbreaks on a per-person basis were in New London County with 145 cases per 100,000 per week; Hartford County with 127; and New Haven County with 124. The Centers for Disease Control says high levels of community transmission begin at 100 cases per 100,000 per week.
Adding the most new cases overall were Hartford County, with 1,133 cases; New Haven County, with 1,063 cases; and Fairfield County, with 1,044. Weekly case counts rose in five counties from the previous week. The worst increases from the prior week's pace were in Hartford, Fairfield and Middlesex counties.

​ Across Connecticut, cases fell in three counties, with the best declines in New Haven County, with 1,063 cases from 1,171 a week earlier; in Windham County, with 89 cases from 143; and in Litchfield County, with 157 cases from 188. ​
In Connecticut, 17 people were reported dead of COVID-19 in the week ending Sunday. In the week before that, 16 people were reported dead.
A total of 873,294 people in Connecticut have tested positive for the coronavirus since the pandemic began, and 11,197 people have died from the disease, Johns Hopkins University data shows. In the United States 94,190,979 people have tested positive and 1,043,840 people have died.

Hospitals in 20 states reported more COVID-19 patients than a week earlier, while hospitals in 21 states had more COVID-19 patients in intensive-care beds.
