A graduate of Marygrove College and the University of Akron, Ebinger has taught for 20 years, with the last 17 in New London. She currently teaches two U.S. history courses through the College Credit Plus program, government, pop culture and the Holocaust class.

Ebinger recently spoke to the New London Rotary Club about the class and how she helps students understand what to them may be ancient history, but is in reality just the blink of an eye away.

She said the content of the course changes each time it is taught, but “All students meet a survivor, either in person or electronically.” They visit the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage in Beachwood, as well as other museums, concentration camps and other locations electronically.  The students are required to keep journals as they experience the reality of the events.

Because of its popularity, the class is being expanded from a semester to a full year, with its name changing from Holocaust Studies to Holocaust and Genocide Studies

Although Ebinger has no relatives that she knows of who were victims of the Holocaust, she knows some German and has traveled extensively and visited many of the camps and other locations.  She will also be participating in a conference in Israel this summer.
