NEW LONDON NOTES: Firelands Festival Labor Day parade is Saturday, Sept. 3

The New London Area Historical Society chooses the theme each year for the Firelands Festival Labor Day parade, and this year’s theme is, “New London — Vacation Capital of the World.”

The Rotary Club organizes the parade each year and is seeking entries of all kinds, including bands, floats and individuals. 2wsxEntry forms are available at Sutton Bank and the village office.

The parade begins at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 3 in the downtown area and is just one part of the festival, which runs from Sept. 2-5.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, Aug. 13 for Rez Gone Country at the New London Reservoir Park. Sponsored by the NL Veterans and the NL Parks, the concert will feature several country artists and bands. Gates open at 1 p.m., and entrance is $40.  For information, contact 567-351-6004 or check out Facebook.

New book club forming

A new book club is forming at the NL Library called “For the Love of Books.” It will meet at 6:30 p.m. the third Thursday of each month, beginning Sept. 15. Call 419-929-3981 or visit the library at 67 S. Main St. for a booklist.

The library is hosting two story times with the new elementary principal, Jennifer Yost, where parents and students will have an opportunity for a meet and greet with her. The first will be 10 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8 and the second, 6 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug.11.
