New London Notes: Halloween winners, raffles and books to read

NEW LONDON − The village’s Halloween activities took place during a perfect fall day, and hundreds of people came out to enjoy the weather and events.

Activities included trunk or treat at the Laurels of New London and trick or treat downtown and around the village.

Alexis Hinkley’s pumpkins won first and third place in the jack-o'-lantern jamboree, and Bethany Smith placed second with her gourds.

The library won the best display using straw bales and pumpkins in the contest sponsored by Inspire New London and New London Complete Health Dentistry.

First place individual winners in the Rotary-sponsored parade are Shelby Wuensch, Charlie Riley, Maeve Krystowski, Adelynn Schlecter, Cooper McKean, Silas Grys, Oliver Collins, Abram Krystowski, Nathan Willis, Jeremy Grosscup and Gavin Carruthers.

Lillian Ott and Rosie the Elf are the first place couple, and the best float went to Misty Valley Farm's, Hartman and Ruggles families. The Care Bears were judged the best of the small groups, as well as the overall parade winner.

This month begins with the Athletic Booster Reverse Raffle at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 5, in the Hileman Building, followed by the gun raffle at noon, Saturday, Nov. 12, also in the Hileman Building.

Raffle tickets are $10 each or six for $50 and available from Gilbert’s Hardware and the village office. For more information, call 419-541-6131.

The For the Love of Books club will be discussing "Cloud Cuckoo Land” by Anthony Doerr at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17 in the library meeting room.

December’s book is “I Must Betray You” by Ruta Sepetys. The books and more information are available at the main desk.
