Members of the New London Area Historical Society filled the Grange Hall on Dec. 19 for the organization’s annual banquet.

Tom Neel, president, welcomed everyone and reported the museum has new ceiling fans and a copier available for public use.

The speaker for the evening was Huron County historian Henry Timman who discussed some of the ways Christmas has been celebrated over the last 200 years.

Membership in the society, a 501c3 charitable organization, is $10 for a single and $15 for a family. Payment can be made to the NL Area Historical Society, c/o Stacy Crabbs, 100 White Ave., New London 44851.

Neel publishes a newsletter three times a year titled “Then & Now,” in which he prints photos and stories from the past and shares society news.

The society museum is located at 13 E. Main St. and is open to the public 1-4 p.m. the first Saturday of the month. Neel gave tours of the facility during the recent Hometown Holidays.

The library will be closed Monday and Dec. 30-Jan. 2.

Line dancing at the Alliance Church will resume at 6 p.m., Monday, Jan. 9, and the For the Love of Books group will meet at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 19, to discuss “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” by Rebecca Skloot.

As we all know, everything changes, and this will be my last New London column for the Times-Gazette. It has been a pleasure bringing a bit of the village to the readers each week, and I wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a happy, safe and prosperous 2023.
