New London scores road win at S.C.

Jan. 6—GREENWICH — The New London girls basketball team stayed one game off the pace in the Firelands Conference with Thursday's 49-40 road win over host South Central.

The Wildcats (7-5, 5-1) led 15-12 after one quarter and 21-19 at the half. They used a 20-14 scoring edge in the third quarter for some distance to earn the win over the Trojans (4-8, 3-3).

Emilee Rowland scored 14 points for New London, which trails Western Reserve (8-3, 7-0) by one game in the FC standings. Gracie Thomas added 11 points, while Valery Henry scored nine.

For South Central (4-8, 3-3), Kendyl Beverly scored a game-high 17 points and Grace Lamoreaux had 16 points.

The Wildcats host Monroeville (4-7, 2-4) on Saturday, while South Central visits Mapleton next Tuesday.

Western Reserve 40, Mapleton 23

COLLINS — The Roughriders stayed alone atop the FC with Thursday's dominant win over the host Mounties.

Western (8-3, 7-0) had five different players score six points each, which included Bella Thornburg, Katie Woodruff, Anna Woodrum, Grace French and Madison Pfanner.

Woodruff, French and Woodrum each added four rebounds, and Woodrum had four assists.

The 'Riders will host Crestview on Saturday.
