London Underground Platform Busy on First Day of England Lockdown

A commuter said he would be “back on the bike tomorrow” after encountering the crowds at an Underground station in London on the first day of England’s latest COVID-19 lockdown on January 5.

Under the new guidelines, the UK government said people must stay at home unless going to work, shopping for necessities, attending education, meeting with a support bubble, or seeking medical assistance.

Transport for London also urged the city’s residents to stop the use of nonessential public transport. “You must not leave your home to travel unless for work, education or other legally permitted reasons,” they said. Credit: Denny Smith via Storyful
