Long ball leads Norwalk past Sailors

Apr. 14—SANDUSKY — The Norwalk High School softball team spotted Vermilion a four-run top of the first, then scored 11 of the next 15 runs in Wednesday's 11-8 win in SBC Lake Division action.

The game was relocated form NHS to Sports Force Park in Sandusky because of the weather conditions.

Tyra Corbin hit a two-run home run for the Truckers (3-6, 1-1) in the bottom of the first inning, then McKenna Ames doubled and scored on an RBI single by Callie Helton to close within 4-3.

Down 6-3 entering the bottom of the third, Norwalk got a solo home run from Ames, followed by a single from Mya Prochnow. Helton and Schlotterer then each singled, while an error also helped bring in a run that pushed the Truckers ahead, 6-5.

In the fourth, Corbin drove in Haley Gockstetter, as the two reached on consecutive singles. After Morgan Leber followed with a base hit, Prochnow hit the first pitch of the ensuing at-bat for a three-run home run and a 10-7 lead.

Corbin added an RBI single in the sixth inning to close out the scoring.

Gockstetter, Ames and Corbin were each 3 for 4, with Corbin driving in four runs.

In the circle, Gockstetter pitched all seven innings for the win. She allowed three earned runs on 10 hits with eight strikeouts and one walk.

NORWALK — The Wildcats improved to 3-2 overall and 2-2 in the Firelands Conference with Wednesday's run-rule win over the Lady Flyers (0-6, 0-4) at Norwalk Area Contractors Park.

Emilee Rowland had another big day for New London. She was 3 for 3 with four runs scored and drove in a pair while going all five innings in the circle for the win. She allowed two earned runs on seven hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk.

Also for the 'Cats, Grace Popa was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Lacie Hall was 2 for 3 with a triple and three RBIs, while Tara Davidson was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.

For St. Paul, Megan Lesch doubled, while Klaire Hickey, Presley Stang and Brooke Houck each had two hits.

MONROEVILLE — The visiting Mounties (3-3, 1-1) scored two runs each in the top of the fifth and sixth innings to erase a 4-3 deficit in Wednesday's FC win over the Eagles at Clark Park.

For Monroeville (8-2, 3-1), Emily Scheid was 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Abbie Poths was 3 for 3 with a triple and drove in a run while scoring twice, and Grace Tonelli had a pair of RBIs.

In the circle, Scheid went the first 4 1/3 innings. She allowed four earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Camryn Hurst went the final 2 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits with a pair of strikeouts.
