New long-distance bus service starting around Idaho, linking Boise to Salt Lake City

A new long distance bus service is set to launch service in Boise and around Idaho starting Wednesday, offering daily round trips to Salt Lake City, Las Vegas and Reno, Nevada, and Spokane, Washington.

Megabus, in partnership with existing shuttle operator Salt Lake Express, is expanding routes throughout Idaho to connect with other Western U.S. states. Cities in Idaho neighbors Utah, Montana, Nevada and Wyoming are among the new stops.

“We are delighted with this opportunity to team up with Salt Lake Express to offer new service to our customers,” Colin Emberson, Megabus’ vice president of commercial, said in a news release. “The partnership will allow us to expand throughout the Northwest and the addition of these 75 cities will bring our total network to more than 500 cities served in North America.”

The expansion brings the discount North American bus line, based in New Jersey and Ontario, Canada, and part of the Coach USA/Canada fleet, to the Pacific Northwest. New cities in Idaho, east to Pocatello and north to Moscow, are included in the added routes.

Boise’s two pick-up and drop-off locations are the Boise Airport (3201 Airport Way) and the Flying J Travel Center (3353 Federal Way). Buses will depart for daily, red-eye trips between Boise and Salt Lake City.

“We are thrilled about this opportunity to offer these new routes to Megabus customers,” Jacob Price, owner of Salt Lake Express, said in the release. “We look forward to offering this service to our customers, and now Megabus customers, for many years to come.”

Greyhound Lines also operates long-haul bus service from Boise to the cities in the Western U.S., also from the two pick-up/drop off locations at the Boise Airport and the Flying J. Greyhound, however, offers fewer stops in cities throughout Idaho compared with Megabus’ new service.
