After Long Hiatus, Students Return to West Hartford Schools

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Students in West Hartford returned to school buildings Tuesday under a hybrid learning plan after nearly six months of relative isolation due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The plan implemented by West Hartford officials calls for students to be split into two teams. One team attends classes in person on Mondays and Tuesdays, with remote learning on Thursdays and Fridays. Students on the other will follow the opposite schedule, learning from home on Mondays and Tuesdays and having in-school classes on Thursdays and Fridays.

Wednesdays have been designated as remote learning for all students districtwide.

Here are some tidbits from school system officials:

  • Distancing measures are in place

  • The airflow and HVAC systems have been "reworked"

  • Children of all ages are wearing masks

  • A safe eating environment for 9,300 students is in place

  • Students with last names beginning with the letters A-K are assigned to the Red Group

  • Those with last names beginning with letters L-Z are assigned to the Blue Group

  • Families and households with students who may have different last names have been grouped together
